Wow!!!!!!! This is a loaded question. I say yes for the fact that more and more wrecks happen on the highways and interstates because of cell phone users. I would say let them have those areas on the road to stop and talk but no one would use them. Best thing to do is make it a law to write out tickets for those driving while on the cell phone. Start the price at $50 and go up to $1000. They will get the idea not to talk on the cell phone anymore after paying a $1000 ticket.

Absolutely, positively, without any hesitation whatsoever they should be BANNED and SEVERE FINES imposed if you are caught or reported.
And the "no-hands" thing is bogus.
Research has shown that being involved in a conversation on the phone actually uses the same part of your brain that is engaged WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING.
Which means that you CANNOT DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.
It makes no difference if you're holding the phone or not, you should be DRIVING not chatting on the phone about some superflous bullsh|t like how much you paid for your haircut.
Traffic deaths involving CELL PHONE USAGE is a matter of public record, to the IDIOTS out there talking and driving, I urge you to google it.
HANG UP THE PHONE AND DRIVE.

Yes they should. I work on a main street and eight out of ten are talking on the phone. There is paper and book reading, eating, and a lot of nose picking. I have noticed that people don't spend a lot of time paying attention to driving. I get to work at six thirty in the morning and people are driving by talking on the phone on their way to work. Who in the hell are you talking to if you just left home? There should be a law against it and probably will be after a few more deaths.

I have had two wrecks, but not due to cell phones. I txt while I drive. So I think yes it should be, unless you use a wire headset or a blue tooth head set. If they do they better not take it easy on some ppl they better ticket everyone that does. Like I see all kinds of law enforcements on the phone while driving so if they do pass it, law enforcements better set example's for ppl.

Guilty as charged!!!
While I am such the person who ATTEMPTS to drive & talk on the phone @ the same time, I feel it WOULD make our streets a LOT SAFER!!! There have been SOOOOO many near misses that I have had, it is no WONDER I don't give it up all by myself. For some reason I feel compelled to call someone when I am in the car -- It is actually very routine for me. But I do have to say, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to ban it.

Hmm, I think so... and here in Virginia, the under-18 set actually is banned from using them. Unfortunately, even if legislation banning cells for EVERYONE is passed, it's too difficult to enforce, so we'll still have the same jerks out there who aren't paying attention.
Not to mention the fact that everyone uses cellphones while they drive at SOME point -- I try not to but when I'm lost I can't help pulling it out to call for help!

they already have been in NJ. Although I don't know how well enforced it is because I still see people all the time.
I think a lot of people shouldn't cause they drive like idiots almost as if they are drunk when talking on their cell while driving. But, there are those people who can do it well, like my dad. he can drive with his knees! Besides the point.
It really depends....

I think they should be required to use hands-free equipment. We'd have to have them not speak to passengers as well if you were going to completely eliminate distractions.
At this time, if you are in a car accident and are using a cell phone, almost always the accident will be at least partially your fault.
Surprisingly, the worst offenders I see are moms in mini-vans and SUVs with children in their car seats. How can you make a turn safely holding a $%@^ cell phone? A whole lot of bad mothers out there.

Definitely. It takes too much focus off the road, and leads to less attention given to driving and what's going on around you. Cell phones cause way too many accidents, even if some of them are just minor fender benders...

I'd like to say no--because I use my cell while I'm driving all the time.
But realistically, probably. It's dangerous, even if you use the headset, because your attention is elsewhere.
On the other hand, your attention is elsewhere if you put on make up while you drive, if you have kids in the car, if you eat or drink (coffee) while you drive, etc. I'd hate to see those things being made illegal.
