It happend yesterday, she was like 'you do this' and I was like 'no I don't and she kept saying I do and I just didnt get it.

You may know the catholic rituals but if you have never done them you can only go by what it seems like and not what it is to the person doing that action.

That drives me absolutely BONKERS. It makes me want to tear my hair out (or possibly tear THEIR hair out) when somebody tells me that I need to stop worshipping statues or worshipping Mary or worshipping the Devil or going against the Bible or any of a hundred other things they erroneously think Catholics do. The conversation goes something like this, right?

Them: "You shouldn't [insert unchristian thing they think all Catholics do]"
You: "Well that's good, I don't do that."
Them: "Yes you do."
You: "I beg your pardon? I think I know my beliefs better than you do. I'm certain I don't do that."
Them: "Yes you do. You've been deluded by the whore of Babylon. But I can save you!!" [insert superhero theme music]
You: "..."

Apparently, they think we Catholics are unchristian, deluded, AND stupid enough to do such ridiculous things. One wonders why they are interested in "saving" us at all. Actually, I wish they *would* decide we're a lost cause and leave us to practice our Christian faith in peace.

That's a situation that I frequently encounter around this forum. I think that a lot of people believe what they've been told about the Catholic faith by someone else, rather than find out for themselves. "Pastor So-and-so said that Catholics worship Mary, so it has to be true." They won't listen to those of us who've studied our faith and know why we believe what we do. Pastor So-and-so *has* to know more about Catholicism than we Catholics, as far as they're concerned. It's pretty sad.

Another thing that drives me crazy is when someone wants "Scriptural proof" for our Catholic beliefs and practices. I give them specific passages, and a lot of times, then they tell me that I'm 'misquoting' the Bible.

I guess the bottom line is that there will always be people who hate Catholics, so no matter what we say or do, it won't be right.

This frustrates me to no end and I just can't get over the ignorance of some people!

I've had people tell me that I should stop praying to statues. And I'm like, "I never said that I pray to statues, I've never prayed to a statue in my life!"

Then, they proceed to tell me, "Well that's what the Catholic Church teaches its members to do."

umm.....No it doesn't!

Then, of course I get told what I do in my own private time....such as I worship Mary as a goddess, I "consult" the dead and I worship graven images! And you know the amazing part of it? I'm not aware of any of it! Maybe I have periods of time where I'm out of my mind -- and then snap back into reality with no recollection of anything??

But yes, some of those protestants are amazing...they know everything about Catholicism...without even having to read, study or step foot inside a Catholic Church!

*edit*

nardhelain ... I couldn't stop chuckling at your following comment ... "[insert superhero theme music]" .... That was so hilarious in the scenario you used.

Tell me about it!

I also get frustrated when some Muslims tell us that we are worshiping 3 Gods because the Trinity does not make sense to them.

I can accept that they question, and have no problem with that, dialog between faiths is good.

But when they tell me what I believe, based on their lack of understanding, I get frustrated also.

We need to keep our Christian love and not lose our temper.

Peace be with you!

P.S. to the gentleman above me, you really cannot find the last supper in Scripture?

It is not hard to find, you might check again. Jesus said "This IS my body" He made it quite clear. We do not abandon the word of God simply because it is not super easy to understand.

Peace!

There is no arrogance like cultivated ignorance.

Ask her ,"Where is that in the Catechism?"or"Who told you that?" and then say "Prove it"

Often I have been told by people with third-hand accusations from unrealiable anti Catholic sources that "Everybody knows that the Catholic Church..." I always direct them to primary sources like the Catechism of the Catholic Church

I always find this ironic because it seems like the individual who is trying to tell someone what the person's faith actually stands for gives a very distorted view.

I have found this to be the worst in communities with older populations.

At present, I do not find Catholics and/or Protestant (teaching) completely in agreement with God's word (scripture). Be aware that God sees the heart (why), man see differently (who, what, when, where, and how). 1 Sam. 16:7.

There are tons of literature on the Catholic church and though we cannot know how something affects you, we can certainly spot the differences between what Jesus and the Apostles taught and what the Catholic church observes.

We who are outside of the Catholic church understand that you buy wine and wafers and when they are blessed they turn into the body and the blood, but we cannot find that in the scriptures. Therefore we see them as invented by Catholicism.
