Assalamualaikum brother,
Good question!
First of all, Mr Hassan Nasrallah is a blessing to all of us and obviously a true muslim....ABSOLUTELY no doubt about that. I hope God helps him and Hezbollah in any future events...Certainly my full support goes to him...

Now as for a the shia thing,
He is not being a bad shia by saying what he did. He has all the qualities a real leader of the muslims should have - tolerance, strictness.........just look at the way his followers (which should be all of the muslim world) see him!

I am what people will call a shia muslim....devout shia..... but that does not mean i contort to "only' shii beleifs....I call myself a pro sunni Shia - and more a muslim with complicated beliefs regarding both the Quran and the Hadeeths...Regarding what I truly believe I am a pure muslim, atleast according to myself....the follower of the monotheistic Abrahamaic religion certified by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)...
My father is a sunni, my mom a shia, and to a level that has been a great blessing for me - because my parents allowed me to chose my own path in Islam....It allowed me to see the two forms of Islam in an unbiased manner and I thank Allah about that...
There should not be anything called shia or sunni in Islam... we are all one - My time among sunnis had often led to serious shocks about certain myths they uphold about the shias, and vice versa while i lived with shias... The misunderstanding is a serious problem but I had always stood up as a bridge between both forms...

As for my personal beliefs... I am a shia twelver, I believe in the twelve imams - and I believe in Hazrat Ali being the Leader of muslims after our beloved prophet. But that does not mean I do not respect Hazrat Aisha, Hazrat Omar and other followers of the Prophet Muhammad. Contrary to extreme shia beliefs, i am a staunch believer that they were muslims loved by Allah, but not as pure as the prophet was....I object to the shia TRADITION (that is what it really is!) of Arbain - punishing oneself for the death of the prophet's grandson...that sounds to me like a human tradition, not enlisted in the teachings of Islam and.....to tell the truth, I feel it is very wrong. I believe in both parts of shia and sunni hadeeths.

Whatever it be, the shia-sunni "conflict" stems from politics that started AFTER our beloved prophet Muhammad (pbuh)'s passing away...not during his time on earth...And a muslim believes in what the prophet showed us and not anything after him...So directly saying, the sects of shia and sunni are barely two religious groups...but actually have its roots in political struggles within muslims. The modern conflict is even less religious in nature - it is the clash of two politcal parties rather than any real Islamic power struggle.

To end it, I would like to say "I AM A PROUD MUSLIM", the shia and sunni conflict thing is part of my own beliefs but does not clash with any other muslim sect in any way. I maybe a pro sunni shia, but I am a proud muslim and that is what matters to me and should for everyone...

May the dream of our unity come true Insha'Allah.

Edit: To Samantha, I will not agree with what is mentioned in the quote you implied..... There are many shias that do respect the 3 mentioned. The three certainly deserve repect, and even though i do say that I am a shia and do not agree with the idea that they should have been the first 3 Caliphs...I have to say that I firmly repect their character.

My point is that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) KNOWS FAR BETTER THAN US whom to select for as his companions(as the prophet is wise enough to be our messenger). The three were honourable people, maybe not deserving Leadership, but certainly deserving respect...
Enough said... :)

La farq bayna sunnah wa shia (There is no difference between sunnah and shia we are all brothers under the same banner one God and Muhammad is his Messenger, great man sayed Hassan.

Edit: How do you want to bring unity my dear brother when you say shia do not respect any companion but Ali. Imam Ali is not a companion he is the prophet's nephew, and son in law.

Edit: It is not a fact that they do not respect the companions, they follow the sunnah of the prophet through Ali and the family of the prophet, should a shia say that sunni do not respect Ali and the family of the prophet. And now let us start unitying, first of if you want to start unity you do not talk about your differences you start with what we have in common.

Edit:

Truth and falsehood can not be identified by the virtue of people. First understand the truth, you will then realize who is adhering to it.

Shiats do respect companions other than Imam Ali (a.s.)...

Salman Farsi, Bilal Habashi, Abuzar, Ammar, Meghdad and others...

"The fate of Islam is decided in Saqifeh without the presence of Ali, Salman, Abuzar, Ammar, Meghdad and others. Now, these people have all gathered in Fatima's home, sad and angry. Why have they remained faithful to Ali. They are not from among the aristocrats of the Oussand Khazraj tribes. They have no family or hold no prestige in Medina. They are not from among the original Qoraish family whose luxury of blood, family and class has given them station and position. They do not desire to have the slightest part of the Caliphate of the Prophet." (Fatima is Fatima by Dr.Ali Shariati... CHAPTER 13.)

And to answer your question...
No... he's not being a bad Shiat by saying that...

EDIT:
I've already mentioned why most Shiats don't respect the 3 Sunni Caliphs...
The quote from the book... that's mostly the reason!

EDIT EDIT:
There are lots of other reasons that I don't want to mention here on Y!A... bcz I don't want to start an argument or anything...
I don't know if Arash knows those stuff or not... but you (Lawrence) seem like a person who likes to learn about different stuff...
So... read up on Shiat history after the Prophet's death... and if you want... you could email me for references...

Nasrallah is the politically correct form of a Shi'i, He is a globally recognized figure, and looked on as a hero by most Muslims, and since most muslims are Sunni, He has to adapt so as not to offend anyone, he has to be a moderate Muslim.

Don't be mad by my Answer, I love Nasrallah, and i pray that Allah will grant him victory, but most Shi'as are not like him, so we cannot generalise all shi'as to be like him, although i Wish there were more like him.

How is that being a bad point of view? There is nothing wrong with saying that. So... are you saying that Shia's disregard this message?
