Violet: I practice Islam from The Quran and the teachings of the prophet agreed upon by Muslims. Sunna is not a certain book, they're the teachings and deeds of the prophet.

Honey; I don't know how do you assume that I don't believe in the Sunna? I believe in The Quran and The Sunna of the Prophet.. Sunna Means "teachings, acts, and words" sunna do not mean a "Sect"! And please stop assuming things and stop assuming that you know better than the others, because anyone who assumes things and jumps to conclusions is JAHIL!

Please refer to my answer to this Question.. hope that helps...

I don't consider Shiites to be Muslim because in order to be a muslim one must believe in the One Almighty God Allah and believe that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is his messenger.. Shiites identify themselves as "the followers of Ali" also most Shiites I've spoken with don't adhere to the teachings of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, and they also misconcieve the main teachings of the Quran. Ok so maybe its a little too harsh to denounce Shiites as being non-Muslims but I heard this lecture by an infamous Sheikh who explained why Shiism isn't right due to some false beliefs within the doctrines of Shiism.. I will e-mail you the link to this lecture soon (do you speak Arabic though?) I'll try to find the English version of it. Until then, I highly recommend that you seek knowledge from Books, ask the imams of the mosques near you, and of course the best thing to do is to seek guidance from Allah, for only with His endless mercy can you be guided to the straight path..
if I have said anything good then it is from Allah, and if I have mistaken then it is from my own mistakes.. May Allah guide us all to the straight path. Ameen.

There is no sect in Islam that is right or wrong, we are just Muslims. There was a slight disagreement over inheritance of who should have been the next leader of Saudi when Muhammad (pbuh) died. But Islam is Islam, meaning if you submit to the will of Allah (swt) and believe there is no God but Allah, and trust the Qur'an is His word, then you are a Muslim!!!

There are differing opinions of Islam, but e.g. whether you think the niqab should be compulsory or that just modest dress is fine, your still a Muslim.

I think your absolutly right brother and keep it up. In the end every one who follows Quran and Mohamed (pbuh) is a Muslim and all this section thing just breeds hatred in to people for no reason at all. Different sect but we are still brother and sister.
I am just Muslim

I believe the same, Islam is not to be categorized, it has Unified all religions into one, you can't then Separate it into Different ones..
I believe in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
I Believe in All The Prophets, I Respect All The Sahaba (Fellows of Muhammad PBUH)
I Believe in the Qur'an and I believe in the Judgment Day, I Believe in Fate...hence I am a Muslim who is devoted to Allah -swt- and Follow all his teachings on the Qur'an and the Hadith..

Oh God! Brother, what makes you think that Islam needs sects, no, not at all.
When our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhamad (SAW) started preaching Islam, he only preached "Islam", not any sect. The sect were produced after Prophet (PBUH)'s death. I'm born sunni, but later on I realized that Islam is so complete, and Hadiths and Quran are a complete guide that we don't other, er... sect. So, like you, I too, don't assosiate with some sect... I'm a Muslim, a follower of Muhamad (PBUH). So you right completely right in that. I'm glad to know your thoughts.

There are three things in Shariah, Qur'an, Hadith, and then Ijtehaad. First you should seek guidance, then if you can't find anything clear in Quran, seek it in Hadith, if even in Hadith you can't find your required info. clearly, so you are allowed according to Islam to do your personal Ijtehaad. But to do ijtehaad, you need to have sufficient knowledge of Hadith And Quran, or you'll fail. Like, you see, only a scientist can do more research on a scientific project. So, some of Ulmaas, like Imam Shafei, Imam Ghazali, and Imam Maleki, did some ijtehaad in some matters, the people who followed Imam shafei's ijtehaad started calling themselves Shafei, the people who followed Imam Maleki's ijtehaad started calling themselves, Malekis, and so on. Ehel Sunnat or Sunnis were the group who didn't followed any new ijtehad, but followed The teachings of Hadith and the traditions of Sahaba's.

Islam is so complete, dear, that you don't need any other sect, any other "ism" to guide. Just stick to Qur'an and Hadith. Learn Arabic and try to study Qur'an with understanding, also read Hadiths as they help you to understand Qur'an as well.

God bless us all and show us all the path of right and light!!!!!

You don't have to be a Sunni or a Shi'ite in irder to be a Muslim. I personally am a Sunni, because it isn't in my hands to decide my sect but my ancestors. Yes, you are absolutely right.

I don't categorize myself. When I meet Muslims I am just a Muslim. I follow the Holy Al-Qur'an in every way possible to the best of my ability. That's enough for me.

Also: Do nonMuslims who convert choose a sect?

I agree with you brother. I am simply: a Muslim on the Monotheism of Ibrahim and Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon them) and the Tawheed of Allah subhana wa ta'ala...Alhamdulillah.

Dear brothers and sisters the sunnah of the prophet should be followed shia or sunni, tell me how do you pray where do you get that from the Quran, please brothers and sisters, Sunnah and shia, regardless if you follow the sunnah that is narrated by the companions or the family of the prophet it should be followed. Everything must be referred to the holy Quran and the Sunnah, the noble traditions of the holy Prophet (s.a.) and any Hadith that does not agree with the holy Quran it is a useless statement. If you come across a Hadith and you find evidence in the holy Quran to support it or in Hadith of the holy Prophet (you may follow it), otherwise, you follow the one that has come to you through the trustworthy narrator.

The holy Prophet who said, "Seeking knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim. Let it be known that Allah loves those who seek knowledge." ‘Acquire good understand in religion because those of you who do not have good understand in religion are like the Bedouins. Allah has said in His book, ‘ Why do not some people from each group of believers seek to become specialists in religious learning and, after completing their studies, guide their group so that they will have fear of God. (9:122)’"

"The holy Prophet once addressed the people in Mina (a place in Makkah) saying, "O people, whatever comes to you in the form of my Hadith you must see if it agrees with the holy book of Allah then know that I have said it but whatever comes to you that does not agree with the book of Allah then know that I have not said it."

Dear brothers and sisters of R&S here our beloved prophet is telling us to use our intelligence , to seek knowledge and not to follow anything blindly, even if your Imam tells you something you do not agree with do not be afraid to question, keep an open mind, do not reject what you do not understand.

Salam,
Actually its a sin to go against the sunnah of Rasool Allah SAW, humans can make mistakes as we seen.
Here is the truth about that... you have to follow Sunnah or there is no way through Islam......without Sunnah you cannot pray or learn to pray or even begin to understand the religion that was given... Without Muhammed SAW its impossible.. Ali never told them anything like that they decided to separate on their own 1300 years ago... and if they don't accept the prophets words even one of them they are in error of the whole religion as set forth it was perfect before Muhammed SAW died, so why change it if its perfect?
