i have been to several doctors, one just said it was an infection and gave me some ear drops, when that didn't work i went to another doctor and he said it was eczema and gave me some cream, that worked at fist, then a week later it stopped and the pain came back, another doctor told me to use the same cream again, and another doctor said it was just a reaction to the chlorine because i used to go swimming a lot.

I'm not a doctor so i cant say, but i don't think it is eczema and it is still here even though i havnt been swimming for about a year. it is a stabbing pain, and half way down my ear canal it is blocked by something that isn't there in my other ear. sometimes it 'leaks' this gross yellow sap-type thing and occasionally hearing is hard in that ear, and everything sounds like when you are underwater. have anyone any ideas about what it can be.

I have the same thing. It's like when I breath I can feel something in my ear canal and when I talk, I can hear it more in my head, and when it happens its painful and I can't hear very well in that ear. It causes headaches and yellow sappy fluid. I went to the doctor and he said I have whats called a flacid eardrum. The eardrum has 3 layers.
1st layer - skin
2nd layer - hard, fiberour material
3rd layer - mucous (?)
Anyhow, my second layer never developed and so when I breath in and out and can feel the thing in my ear is my actual eardrum moving. I also swam alot as a child. The doctor said that nothing can be done and it's just an annoying pain that I have to live with. That pretty much sums it up, if you think that is may be what you have you can email me personally at sisc10kd@yahoo.com. I hope you feel better.

Sounds like you have either impacted ear wax or an infection (fluid) I'd see an ENT - for sure how could dry skin cause stabbing pain ? Sorry - that is not a good reply -

I'd say you have fluid in there that's infected.
Call a MD you trust (ask a friend) and tell them to help you out of this misery - drops are fine but use with caution.
For now try using motrin sleep elevated and in the shower steaming, jump on the other foot and try to work the fluid out.
I'd lay down and warm a tiny bit of peroxide and have someone gently place it in your sore ear.. and let is sit there a full minute.. and get up and towel dry it out -
Call a specialist -

Sounds like an infection.

Do your ears have a hard time draining after you swim? If so, you may want to use a hair dryer, to dry out the ear canal.

Set the air speed on low and the heat on low or medium, then blow air into the canal to dry it up.

This may even help you out now, to dry out the "yellow-sap"!? If there's water trapped in the canal now, the drying action of the hair dryer, may take care of your problem.

It sounds like some sort of infection, it could be the inner canal or other parts of your ear. As linzi07 said, put your foot down and insist on having furthur examination.
I, myself, get plenty of ear infections and the symptoms are very similar to those that you described. I usually get priscription for oral antibiotic as well as an ear drop antibiotic. Go see a specialist...like a Throat, nose, and ear doctor.
take care,

Hi Sweet16

Here are some ideas to use to heal the condition.

Treat Both Ears: The simple, old-fashioned aids are sometimes very fast in giving relief. Always treat both ears, even if only one aches.

1.Garlic: When my little girl had an earache I put a piece of fresh garlic in her ear and it was better by morning. The previous alternative was to go to the doctor and pay a lot of money for penicillin.

2. Onion: Lightly bake a large onion, cut it in half and while warm (not hot enough to irritate the area), bind one half of the onion over each ear. Bandage in place and hold bandage on with a nightcap, white skullcap, etc., and leave on all night.

3.Camomile: Use a fomentation over both ears of three parts of camomile and one part of lobelia. Take two ounces orally (a wineglass full) each two waking hours. Leave the fomentation on the ears all night. (Cover fomentation with plastic or oiled silk, etc.).

4. Mullein: Use three to six drops of mullein oil in both ears several times each day. Insert it upon retiring for the night, and, as before, plug the ears with cotton. Place a fomentation over the ears all night of three parts mullein and one part lobelia.

Best of health to you

My daughter (20) had this problem and was crying with the pain. She was advised to inhale over a bowl of steam with menthol to clear the tube between ear and nose. The pain eased within the hour and cleared the next morning! Worth a try.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse for god sake go to the A and E you may have an infection that is affecting your mastoid bone and if you leave it it will spread up to your brain and cause meningitis (not the virus type) but it can be lethal. If I am wrong and they find nothing find a therapist who does ear candling. Please get it sorted now, ears do not cause pain for nothing

The same thing happened to my hubby he had it for more than a year! They put him an 1 prescription after another and nothing worked. Put your foot down and tell them you want them to do more - I wish I had - my hubby's partially deaf now as its permanently swollen inside - this was 3 years ago and although there's no pain he has to wear a hearing aid and he's only 34!
