I'm sure Bush believes God talks to him.
There were plenty of people who believed Joan of Arc was crazy too.
It's amazing how devout religious belief is indistinguishable from debilitating mental insanity.
I wonder why that is?

A lot of Christians believe that God speaks to then through their conscience, their feelings, or their ideas.
I don't know of anyone who claims to hear a voice, or sees writing on the wall; most Christians just assume that any good idea that they have, or any strong feeling that they have, is caused by God trying to tell them something.
For example, I got a strong feeling (a combination of guilt and compassion) the other day to donate money to a charity that buys food and give medical care for poor children in third world countries. I assume that God was trying to tell me something, so I mailed them a check.
====edit===
Contemplative prayer (meditation) is where you actually "listen" to God; most people assume that the good ideas that pop into their head when they are quiet and pondering the universe come from God, since the Bible says that God gives wisdom to those who ask for it. The Bible also says don't just believe every spirit, but test them to see if the idea really came from God. For example, God would not command anyone to sin, so that idea obviously did not come from God.
I know of a few people who say that God gave them specific instructions in their dreams, but most Christians do not believe that God still works that way.

When a person gets saved, through faith in Christ, then they are born of His Spirit, cleansed by His blood, joint heirs with King Jesus, part of the family of God.
When a person is born of the spirit, then person can see the Kingdom of God. This is the anointing, the Spirit of Truth, 1Jn2:27. The Spirit of Truth talks through our new born spiritman. This restoration to God. Where we pray to God 24/7 through the Spirit. The anointing is our phone line to God.
But God talks back to us through the Holy Spirit to our newborn spiritman.
All born again Christians have the anointing, the Spirit of Truth. So, all hear God in some wayin their spiritman, through the Spirit.
Christians hear from God if they are still & listen for the answer.
Some books written by a Prophet, Kim Clement are about hearing God. One recent one is, 'Some call me crazy, but I am hearing God'. He has a powerful anointing associated with song. Where the Word of the Lord is given to him to give to the people. http://www.kimclement.com . Another book is how to hear the voice of God. Too many ask, "Is this me, God or is it the devil?". So? The Holy Spirit also gives the gift of discernment. This is a must today. Since sooo much is happening in the spiritual realm.

How could desire to you ever teach that one way or the different? a great style of prophets have been/are seen insane: that outdated asserting approximately concept and insanity being very practically the comparable subject. i do no longer think of chatting with God is loopy. it is prayer. yet having God supply you particular guidelines as He (possibly) did with Joan of Arc is uncommon and despite if it became actual, could probable be referred to as insanity via a great style of persons.

God doesn't have to speak out loud to people anymore, that's why He gave us the Holy Bible.
