For some reason parents don't want the responsibility of parenting. It's easier for them if they just stay clueless about what their precious darlings are up to. If the parents knew, then they would actually have to take action like suspend accounts, enforce grounding, cut allowances, and spend more time with their children supervising them. It's a sacrifice of the parents time and energy that they just don't want to give up. Real parenting is not for the weak or selfish. It's a hard, demanding, physically and emotionally abusive job. You'll have to take 21 years of hearing "You're the meanest mother in the world", "Nobody else treats their kids like this", and maybe even a few "I hate you's", before you will ever hear "Thank you for caring so much about me that you set standards and made me learn responsibilty for myself." "I love you Mom, you're the best."

The parental supervision is there. Some parents are actually looking over the shoulders of their thirteen year old daughters to see who they are chatting with and about what. Most kids are really much better at blocking unwanted chats than their parents and do so. There are indeed predators out there, but their prey is not so vulnerable as they think, nor is it a large group of stupid young people being lured in by strangers.

Because school is out, and parents work, and 12-13 years olds are old enough to be left alone according to most governments.

Because school is out. They need some chores. And their parents haven't taken the time to learn the technology that allows them to spy on their children.

I'm a bored office worker. This is the last opportunity to do this. I start a real job Monday.

The Internet Age has changed many preconceived parenting. Many parents are oblivious to technology and couldn't stop them if they wanted to.

I feel your pain...........I guess their parents don't believe in putting blocks on their computers to limit what their kids see/do online. It's very sad.........then these parents end up on Dr. Phil saying "I didn't know Tommy was talking to pedophiles online"....*as the tears are streaming down their face*
