Sure, great idea. But what happens when athletes start suing fans for being fat, drunken boors?

The problem is that people want athletes to keep getting bigger, stronger, faster so they can break records and keep things exciting. People don't want to go back to the days of football linemen weighing 250, hitters never hitting 60 homeruns in a season, sprinters not breaking 10 second 100meters, etc, etc. It's perhaps just better if they do things like they have where they just catch the random person so people think they are testing, and we can continue to believe that these guys are not using enhancement.
Pretty sure most of us would be using them if it meant the difference between a million dollar contract and doing what we are now (i'd drop my pants now and show them where to put the needle).
I think professional sports nowadays are there for entertainment and money purposes more than anything. I dont think yours is necessarily a bad idea, but I think that it isnt what people want. It would be awesome if 1-200 million people were to sue every athlete every time they are caught. Guessing that might be what it would take to end it. But, again, I must ask, is that what people really want?

A much easier solution would be to stop spending your money supporting the dirty athletes and their teams. When sponsors like Rabobank start feeling financial pain, they will take measures to clean things up.
Plus, there is no honest court in the world that would accept this kind of class action suit.

That's an interesting concept. It reminds me of something they started in cycling this year; riders must sign a document saying they are clean, and if it's found to be untrue, they must pay their entire year's salary, even pay they have not yet received (I don't think it's compulsory).
All these little penalties in sport are worthless. Make it really hurt the athletes in the area many of them really care about!
Good question/suggestion!

How about you boycott it. If nobody is watching, sponsors leave and these guys don't have a career. You literally take millions away from them that way. They don't say they're clean, it's implied. A class boycott would be more effective.

It's an interesting concept, but you would need to show that there was monetary damage done from the offense. Lost bets don't count :)
