Without the filtering action of the ozone layer, more of the Sun's UV-B radiation would penetrate the atmosphere and would reach the Earth's surface. Many experimental studies of plants n animals n clinical studies of humans hav shown the harmful effects of excessive exposure to UV-B radiation.Several studies hav documented the harmful effects of ozone on crop production, forest growth. Because ozone reacts strongly with other molecules, high levels of ozone are toxic to living systems
Ground-based and satellite instruments have measured decreases in the amount of stratospheric ozone in our atmosphere. Over some parts of Antarctica, up to 60% of the total overhead amount of ozone (known as the column ozone) is depleted during Antarctic spring (September-November). This phenomenon is known as the Antarctic ozone hole. In the Arctic polar regions, similar processes occur that have also led to significant chemical depletion of the column ozone during late winter and spring in 7 out of the last 11 years
There is now ample evidence that exposure of humans n experimental animals to UV-B radiation from artificial or natural sources can modify the immune system both at the site of exposure (locally) as well as systemically, mainly by decreasing cellular immune responses. local effects of UV irradiation can also decrease resistance to the growth of cancer cells, including melanomas. UV radiation damages DNA. this can alter the genetic info, causing mutations that can lead to formation of a cancer cell.
It also may cause a greenhouse effect, gradually warming the earth to the point where our polar ice caps melt and flood the coastal cities. This is a very long-term effect, though. UV-B rays also seem to have a harmful effect on amphibian eggs, which may be one cause for the recent and drastic drop in frog populations. this disturbs the env. balance. There are likely to be many other effects of ozone depletion which we will discover in years to come.

The thinning of the ozone layer allows more UV rays from the sun get to the Earth. The ozone layer blocks most of the UV. UV rays can cause skin Cancer to those of us that work or play out side. The ozone 'holes' hover over the north and the south of Earth. If the ozone layer is thinned too much the UV rays might begin to harm plant life.
Please note that ozone depletion has nothing to do with Global Warming.

Ozone depletion studied in the Antarctic
LONDON, July 26 (UPI) -- British scientists have found naturally occurring chemicals in the Antarctic atmosphere deplete most of that atmosphere's ozone from August through May.
The 18-month collaborative study involving the British Antarctic Survey, the University of Leeds and the University of East Anglia was conducted on the Brunt Ice Shelf, 12 miles from the Weddell Sea.
In the atmosphere above the ice shelf, researchers found surprisingly high concentrations of bromine and iodine oxides. Both chemicals remove ozone from the atmosphere.
The bromine is naturally produced by sea salt and the iodine by algae forming on the underside of sea ice, the scientists said. Since ozone helps remove harmful compounds from the atmosphere, ozone depletion harms the atmosphere's ability to clean itself and might contribute to climate change.

Skin is the immediate part of the body that gets affected. Hair is another. A very long exposure might cause cancers of skin and subsequently might affect other parts of the body.
It is the same with animals too, I guess. But not too sure about plants. UV radiation is smaller amounts are good. Only too much exposure is bad for us.
In comparison there are other numerous radiations that are cosmic proportion. One is cosmic wave bombardment. These are all natural causes. Therefore, we do not have an absolute control even with a better ozone layer.
Otherwise also human beings are not so good to listen to warnings and cautions at an early stage of life. For example, no youngster would listen to "Smoking prohibition" and the like. It has been causing havoc in most of the developing nations.

There are 2 ozone reported. First the ozone reported by the weather man is not ozone but NO2.
The ozone layer that is the one that protects from the sun's radiation is much too high. it is at the very edge of space.None of our pollution can get there they are much too heavy. Not even the CFC as they are too heavy. The ozone layer is formed where the magnetic field and the solar winds collide. The holes that form at the poles only radiate the ice pack.

The most prevalent effect of ozone depletion is increased risk of skin cancer. Ozone absorbs ultraviolet radiation, this is the same type of radiation that sunblock is designed to protect you against.
Other harmful effects include cataract damage and retina damage in the eye, cellular mutation and damage to the immune system.

I don't see "Global Warming" caused by the "Ozone Hole". In the myriad of wave lengths in the Sun's radiation, heat is only effected by the IR (Infra Red) waves, not Ultra Violet.
O3 filters the UV, not the IR. A cloud can block IR, yet let the UV pass through (sunburn on a cloudy day).
"Global Warming" is thoerized from the build-up of CO2 and other heavy gases in the atmosphere. Its a seperate issue.

1) the ultra violet rays present in the light ray directly reach the land surface wiyhout being filtered by the ozone layer
2)it increases the chances of skin Cancer
3)the plants face imbalance in the amount of important gases which they need to carry on there daily activities
