get some vegatable oil, the kind you use to cook with and drizzle some in his food everyday, all your dogs food, its good for their skin, and wash them with "head and shoulders" dandrif shampoo the kind that "conditions" and use a lite barely scented conditioner like dove or loreal natural conditioner after wards and rinse well. my doctor told me this and i had same poblem and it fixed both my dogs.it is dry skin yes it can be allergies which can be horrible for them if they go at it too much it can turn in to a rash, best to treat now.as for the ear infections, my husband would put drops of olive oil in his dogs ears fo that, i havent come acrosss that problem yet.
my husnband says they get thing stuck between their litle nails on there paws too, check to make sure there are no foxtails or burrs stuck there, that can be painful and irritating for the little noodles (thats what i call my dogs).

Maybe it is just a hot spot. The more they bite it the more it will bother them. Try putting some bitter apple on the spot they are chewing. Also it could be allergies, I used to have a dog that was allergic to grass. It would chew and then eventually lose the hair on its hind end

The vegetable oil is a good idea but you could also use flaxseed oil or fish oil (make sure there isnt any soy in it). All of those oils are good for dry skin. you may want to check your food and its quality. You may want to try a dog food with lamb and rice or chicken and rice. Or there could be something outdoors that is irritating them. Wipe them off, their feet and rear ends, when they come in.
Good Luck!!!

your dog has allergies. both mine have the same problem. you'll have to figure out what he's allergic to. the vet can do the test or you can just do process of elimination. good luck!
