You can't do a FREE background check anywhere. Even if you go directly to the law enforcement source, AND have a legitimate reason to have a check run, you WILL be charged for the effort.

No, There is absolutely NO way to perform FREE background checks. However here are some tips that could help you:
1. Try asking people who know the person about him/her. Don't just ask a single person's opinion, ask as many people as you can.
2.Goto their workplace and talk to their colleagues. If they get suspiscious you could simply say that your a landlord verifying some information or sometihng like that.
If the above two fail, then use the internet:
1. Enter the EXACT FULL name of the person in quotes and search all the major search engines(google, yahoo and msn).
This should usually get you most of the publicly listed info about that person.
2. Next try giving search keywords like "fullname" + arrested or "fullname" + drugs or fullname+caught. This may be able to get you some info on their criminal background.
3.Try social networking sites. Sites like MySpace, Orkut and facebook have millions of members and usually the person your looking for would also be a member. go through their profile, communities, friends etc. These could give you some information about the person.
If all above fails, then I guess you could try a paid background checking site. One site I recommend would be:

Don't listen to these people, especially the MORON who said you were stupid to think you could do a free background search., you CAN, though the information will not be as reliable as a paid search. Go here http://www.ezusweb.com/ and you'll see a list of FREE search sites, you WILL get some background info. Who's stupid now?

definately not a crimainal check for free. you can get anything info you need but most is going to cost you and to think you can get a criminal check for free is stupid. its the goverment records and you think they will give you the info for free
