You need to allow 2-3 times the full load current of the compressor for the generator.

This is particularly important to have this extra capacity when connecting the compressor of an ac unit to a generator compared to other loads.

It depends on the voltage and amperage rating on your generator, and the voltage and amperage requirements of your AC unit.
At 120 volts, your 1500W generator is only going to put out about 12 Amps.
What is the startup current requirement for your AC unit?
