My neighbor tells me that he saves a little of the vial he uses on his dog to put on his cats. He said the Vet told him it was the same thing. I am wondering if he is correct

Your vet is right - they are almost the exact same formula, but the size of the dose in each vial is a little different.

I have a box of each right now that I'm looking at (we have both dogs and cats). Here are the ingredients:

DOG - fipronil....9.8% CATS - fipronil....9.8%
DOG - methoprene.....8.8% CATS - methoprene......11.8%

The Frontline dose for small/medium dogs is 0.67 ml. The dose for cats is 0.50 ml. So if you want to use what you have on a cat, use most of what is in the vial...but not all....and you will be giving the equivalent cat dosage.

Or if you have a small dog, you could use half a vial on him and the other half on a cat.

Yes they are correct, though it is not recommended by the makers of Frontline. The difference is there is more in the vials for dogs. I have a small dog and actually use the cat Frontline on her. All Frontline goes by weight. But make sure you don't put too much on and if you put too little it won't work.
I worked for a vet for years and spoke with the vendors who sold the product. See if you can get a syringe from the vet. Check the differences in mL's on the dog and the cat vials and then you can draw enough out in the syringe to match the cat size.
Also, if you have a really bad infestation of fleas, Frontline is safe enough to use every 3 weeks rather than four.

Good luck!

I would give your vet a call first just to make sure. The frontline plus is dosed by the size of the animal. so If you have a 20lb dog you might get 5mL but if you have a 50 lb dog you might get 7.5mL of fluid. It probably won't hurt anything as long as you don't just slather the stuff on your cat, but it can't hurt to ask your vet either.
Good luck

NO! That is why they have Frontline Plus for specifically cats and another for dogs. If you really feel the need to use it on your cat call the vet.

NO -- even though some people do it -- it is MUCH BETTER and MUCH SAFER to use Frontline for Cats.

Cats metabolize flea products differently than dogs -- a dog flea product can KILL or Seriously Injure a Cat.

Someone told me the other day that they knew someone who put dog frontline on the cat and the cat was dead within an hour

Dont use dog flea treatment on your cats. There is a reason why one is for dogs and one is for cats

Yes, it is. But do not squeeze out the entire tube on your cat. The danger is in calculating how much you do put out... Try counting drops. About a third of the dog's dose is fine for a cat
