So after studying the Bible and Christianity a bit, I am still confused as to who Satan is. How does he create evil etc? How is he "trying to ruin" me? I don't get it. Am I just supposed to have faith and believe everything the Bible says?

Isaiah 15: 12-15

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

He wanted to "overthrow" God. He became vain and wanted to be like God. He wants as many people not to see what is the Grace of God and keep you from speaking of Christ.

Eph 6:11-16
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high place. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Hi,

I really think that it is easier to see all of this put into graphic form and so I have created a website to show this subject and to try to also put many of the Bible's other topics into perspecitve as well. This website is called Bible Timelines Online (www.bibletimelines.org).

Please take a look at The Gospel Timeline for a visual of where Satan came from. (You will also find more on this topic in The Trial of God Timeline.)

Also, take a look at the presentation called "The Big Picture" for what Satan is trying to do to us and why he is trying to "ruin" you. (http://www.bibletimelines.org/Big_Picture_files/BigPicture1.htm)

If you like to read, please read chapter 1 of Volume 1 (Why Was Sin Permitted?) or chapter 29 (The Origin of Evil) found in Volume 5 of the Bible Commentary that you will find linked in my Table of Contents. Much of what you see in the Bible is explained clearly in these volumes.

It took me over 5 years to answer your last question about if we can believe everything in the Bible. I have tried to answer that as well on this same site so that others will not need to take as long. (http://www.bibletimelines.org/framedquestions.html)

Look it over. I believe you will find answers to many of your questions. More importantly, I hope that you will find a great Friend in Jesus. It is amazing how much He cares about us.

Blessings
:)

Satan was God's greatest creation, the "Angel of Light." But Satan wanted to be like God in having all the attributes that God has. Satan became prideful and told God, "I will not serve."

An Angel has no body. It is a pure spirit, pure intellect. Once it makes up its mind to not follow God and do the good, it becomes a demon.
But Satan became evil personified because he was so great. Evil is the absence of good.

Islamic view..
Satan is a creature of fire.. you can't see him or touch him... he has many followers and they are damned by God to go to hell fire.. this happened when satan disobeyed God when God ordered him to kneel to Adam in prostration... this made satan what he is..

(Quran: "And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblees (satan), he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah).
( Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #34))

the way he and his followers work in like a virus in the human.. a discribtion says that they are in the blood of the human, in his mind.. they are much more intellegent, faster thinkers, and can direct a person to do wrong.... that is why doing good is harder than doing bad... they raise many questions in the human mind when it intends on doing good.. such as charity.. you feel it hard to give the poor .. yet it is very easy to spend alot of money on gambling, drinking.. and other thing...

now one may ask that how come God did not send satan to hell when he disobeyed... this can be found in the Quran where God says that satan said that he would try to make all of humanity go to hell with him, that he shall set them on the wrong path .. so God accepted the challenge but said to satan that he would be able to do what he has said he will do EXCEPT that he will not be able to touch those who believe, who have pity and are rightous... he would not be able to touch them..

research some more on this topic, the Quran and islam explain a lot...

He is the False Accuser of those who do love God. He is the progenetor of false religious worship. He is the Slanderer of bth God and Man through Deception. He instills divisions in the believers, fear, terror Matthew 12:24-31, and doubt. He is always found around the dirty little details reminding people of how inferior they are and of their past misdeeds. Once God forgives the repentent they are completely forgiven. He is also known as the Lord of the Flies or Beelzebub for good reason and will remain separated from God and His goodness forever. Revelation 22. He is always around those who are Spritually dead and disconnected from God.

The Bible is truth, but you will need to study it to grow in maturity in the word. Remember that Satan was once an angle that made a choice to go His own way. He wanted to do it his way and he wanted to put himself above God. Satan's desire to serve himself and to glorify himself, rather than God, helps to explain sin... the desire to be like God or to be our own God. This is a really simple explanation, but study will help you understand.

Please understand that Satan does not want your soul, he just wants to turn you against God.
