They are a protestant Christian faith that strongly follows the idea that Christians have a responsibility to convert non-Christians to their faith. But somewhere along the line they decided that other Christians must be converted to their particular faith as well. They call the attempt to convert witnessing. The idea is that they are witness to something and they share this experience with others.
They are sort of like missionaries that don't discriminate to simply converting heathens, Instead they try to convert everyone heathen or not. This can make them annoying to other Christians who feel that they are already believers.

2 Timothy 4
1 I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: 2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.
3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

Jehovah's Witnesses is a Christian religion (from another answer) - look again
*
Most Christian denominations do not consider the Jehovah’s Witnesses - Christians. A couple of reasons are:
1. JWs do not believe in the deity of Jesus or the Trinity
2. JWs do not believe in preexistence of the soul.
3. JWs believe Jesus is Michael the Archangel, without any clear Scriptural backing

which understands the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments. (from another answer)
*
JWs have roots in “Millenialism” which came from the Millerites and the Christian Perfectionists who were bth Utopians and Millenialists. These believe(d) in the potential for purging society of its sins and evils and both were intent upon perfecting what they believed to be a corrupt world.
The JWs mission is to convert all nations to their beliefs. They do this through door to door ministry.

(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite.(form another answer)

The JWs believe that most people - that convert and are meek “inherit” the Earth. An Earthly paradise - this is in direct opposition to Zeph 1:18, “…but by the fire of his zeal THE WHOLE EARTH WILL BE DEVOURED, because he will make an EXTERMINATION, indeed a terrible one, of ALL the inhabitants of the earth.”
.______________________________________________.
The bible refers to the Kingdom of heaven but does not say the kingdom of earth.
.______________________________________________.
The JWs say there are 144,000 that get to rule in heaven.
The bible says, in Revelation 7:9, this is a great multitude that no man can count.
.______________________________________________.
The Watchtwer Bible and Tract Soc., the Leaders of the JWs keep them on the edge of their seat and in line by offering eternal life in an earthly paradise or death for all time with no hope of an afterlife.
This is done with “immediacy”, as in the end of this world is just around the corner so stay in line or you will die.
This has been done through a lot of false prophecy over the last 100 years and many end time dates that have come and gone.
Usually only a JW says; "Ask them when they come to your door".

Why ask here if you really want to know ask them yourself next time they come to the door or look them up in the phone book.
Quickly ...Jehovah is gods name in English (or as close to it as possible in pronunciation)
There is a scripture where god says you will be wittiness of me.
Hence the name
sorry to offend but here is not the place to get the proper answers. You may get confused by JWs , Atheists , False witnesses and people who think they know about them.
You are best to go to the source

I've always thought that Christians were supposed to be "Jesus" witnesses. What's up with that?

Jehovah's Witnesses is a Christian religion which understands the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite
That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.
Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire
While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]
Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind
