.... And aren't you thus capable of understanding "good" & "bad" without reference to God at all?

Excellent question.

To call God perfect is meaningless unless you have a grasp upon what perfection really is. I could call myself perfect if I defined all the things I do as "good." The truth is that we all define "good" and "evil" differently, if at all, so no entity can be one or the other to everyone.

Now, they could argue that God is the source of all goodness, but, since they do not wish to attribute to God the responsibility of creating evil as well and do not realize that this position relies on circular reasoning, they have no ground upon which they can stand. Those caught within the system are very often unaware and unable to view it from an objective perspective.

Similar problems arise in regard to concepts of love, wisdom, power, etc. These words DO identify something, so, despite the differences in identifications among different people, whatever is said to embody these concepts must CONFORM to them.

It is rather clear to me that God is just that: a concept. Personal perfection is something for which we should, perhaps, strive, but to say this is impossible and then proceed to worship this impossibility as an actual, sentient being is nonsense. Rational thinkers realize the problems that arise with these infinitudes and must reject them.

Circular reasoning only perpetuates ignorant stances. They are impossible to enter and impossible to escape, but at least able to be realized and rejected.

Yes, and God, especially the God of the Old Testament, does not meet the standards of good.

You are not capable of understanding "good" & "bad" without reference to God. It is he who gives intellegence and understanding. We all have our own way, or proof for that matter, of knowing that God is good.
1.The Bible has countless examples of how good God is.
2. Who do you know would send his only son to die for YOU.
3.God does great things in your life (Remember, nothing is by luck but for a reason)
The list goes on and on. Tell you the truth, I don't think God is good..I think he is AWSOME!!! GREAT!!! and MAGNIFICENT!!!

It doesn't take a PH.D to know that something is good.
Even a Child knows this.
