the bigger the dose (of course not outrageously big) the better chances more will get absorbed - if vitamin has 100% DV it doesn't mean all 100% are gona get absorbed

Females need a lot of iron because of blood loss during menstration.. You lose iron when you bleed, so giving a little extra is nice.. if you ever give blood, be sure to eat foods that are high in iron such as meat, fish, beans, lentils or iron fortified whole grain bread...
iron defecency is called anemia..
Remeber that when you take a vitamin, that doesn't mean your body will absorb all the nutrients,, be sure to eat a meal before taking the vitamin to ensure proper absorbtion and avoid any toxicity or side effect issues..
I added a link about iron if you're intrested in any more info.

A lot of women's vitamins have extra iron, because of 2 reasons: we lose more during menstruation, and we don't absorb iron as well as men. I take 300% or more of iron everyday and I'm still usually anemic. Some women just can't absorb them. You don't really have to worry about iron toxicity as a woman, because any extra your body has will be lost during menstruation. After menopause, women shouldn' take extra iron though.

It is a selling point. Iron does not get excreted. so don't take it. too much is toxic. If you are eating a healthy balanced diet you probably don't need it unless a doctor tests you.

If it is in pill form there is a very good chance that you are not getting all of it anyway. pills have binders in them that cause them not to digest quickly. you may only be getting 40 - 60 percent of whats in it

When they compose vitamins they make them so that if you don't have enough in your system then your body can use the extra. Any extra your body doesn't use ends up going through your excretory system and into the toilet.
