They obviously don't read history. They believe everything their money grubbing religious leaders say.

I was just wondering if this is your opinion or fact? Let me just mention one little thing. Have you heard of St. Jude's Children's Hospital? It was founded by a Christian. Atheists are always thinking that religious people do not believe in science, but this is one great example to prove you wrong. The research done there is incredible and has saved many lives. No child is turned away, for any reason. There was one form of cancer, can't remember name off hand, that had a survival rate of 7% when the hospital opened. The survival rate is now over 80%. Don't you think that is a pretty good thing?
Yes, there have been some horrible things done in the name of God, by some really evil, misguided people, but these were not things God wanted us to do. Don't you know that not everyone who says they believe in God actually does? Do you honestly think God wants people flying airplanes into buildings or blowing up markets or burning witches or following false prophets? Well if you do you are wrong, just as wrong as those people because none of you know God. How hard is it to understand that God wants us to love everyone? Forget the false religions and believe God.
God Bless.

I have to agree with you on some part of this. Religion is the main cause for wars and violence.. if there wasn't religion then all the witch hunts wouldn't have been killing thousands of innocent people. Not to mention the wars that go on today. If you added up the damage religion has done, then I would believe it has done more harm then good.
On the other hand, religion offers a belief to people when they have nothing else to believe. I guess it kind of gives people a place to go when they have nothing.. so in that sense it's a good thing.

splitting hairs are we?
let us call a spade a spade.
Why is it hard for PEOPLE to accept the fact, that people have done more harm than good?
I mean, the assertion here is that all bad is a result of religion, (if I am reading you correctly) yet in reality, it is that people are inherently bad to each other. They have done it in the name of religion. They have done bad in the name of government. They have harmed one another in the name of race. You name it, and we, as humans will take any excuse to hurt each other.

Religion doesn't do more harm than good. It's people like you that just make it difficult. I've never been harmed or my family or friends and none of their family and friends.... etc. etc.
And like others said. How do you know this is fact and not just a lot of people-like-you's opinions?
EDIT: Just because those incidents were "harm" doesn't mean it does MORE harm than good or that it's religion in general. Churches help feed the poor, volunteer for SEVERAL things, give to charity, etc. etc. How do you know religion does not do more GOOD than harm?

It is not religion, it is the people. The word of God has not changed. He is very clear on right and wrong. The problem is we do not like His answers for our life. SO we start a religion and change the rules; but God is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

Well, in the wrong hands, it has done harm. Used correctly, it's the Way. But hell is a mistranslation and indulgences (pieces of paper that allowed you to buy your way into heaven) were complete bull sh**. You see, the original religion is fine, but what they add on causes violence.

Depends on which religion you're talking about. If you mean Islam then definitely. Others, we'd need to sit down and discuss the the good and bad they've done.

That's a complete lie.
Whether you believe in a god of any kind or not, it gives people a reason to live. A reason to live 'right', tell the truth, and fear the consequences of breaking rules.
