If you mean religion in general, I wouldn't say humanity as a whole, but definitely the majority of humanity as a whole.

Whatever people cling to in order to live a decent life in a cruel world is OK with me - as long as it doesn't dictate to me what to believe in or intrude on others rights in this world. Salvation is contentment in life itself.

I'm not sure, but your question sure is confusing. I think death is a certainty for everyone. I don't "cling to" my salvation through Christ as a hope, I know I am saved through Christ. Are you as sure about anything in your life?
