As a military spouse I was offered a civilian job on post running a museum. I was told that $40,000 was budgeted to hire a new employee but that I wouldn't be receiving all of that. How much money will I get paid?

Well first, they always try to stay under budget. They budgeted $40,000 but you most certainly will not be paid that. How much will you get?? Have to wait for the offer letter to find out.

Im not sure what post you are on... but here on the post I live the museum is ran by volunteers no one gets paid, not even the museum curator...I know this because I volunteer there. But if you are getting paid then you needed to ask them when you got hired, not here on yahoo answers.

The $40k is their cost of having you work there. This cost includes:

Your pay
Your health insurance
The employer's part of the SUI/SSI insurance
Administrative costs (cost of processing payroll and HR administrative overhead divided by the # of employees)

The rule of thumb is that an employees pay is about 2/3 the total cost to the organization for that employee.

What was the reason for not getting paid that much? If they quoted you $40,000 it of course depends on what they are taking out for taxes, 401K, insurance, etc. Take a look at the job announcement. That is your best bet.

You will have to negotiate that with whoever is hiring you. Usually what that means (if it is civilian contracted) is the contractor gets the $40K for recruiting and staffing and they will pay what is fair market value for the position.

i'm sorry, but how in the heck should we know???

talk to the HR person hiring and offering you the job. ask them why you wouldn't be getting the full $40K???

If they made the offer of 40K and accept you for the position then demand the full amount. If they refuse to pay what was offered then refuse the position. You don't appear intelligent enough for a 40K position.

exactly.. ask them what they are willing to offer you based on your experience. is it NAF or a GS position, because NAF will be paid less( their budget comes from MWR)

Mrs Colon, you'll have to ask the museum.
