It might. If you are eating sensibly you may find a drop in weight. The thyroid controls your metabolism, so getting the level back to normal should boost it. You probably will also feel more energetic which should also help. Good luck.

No, you will not lose weight just by taking the Synthroid, though once on the correct dosage you will stop gaining weight and be able to lose weight with diet and exercise. A rare few will lose with medication alone, but its not the norm.
Weight loss thyroid forum link below. It's quiet as most people don't seem to want to exercise to lose weight, but that's why you have to do, along with being on the correct dose of medication.
When you test, always test first thing in the morning and try to get that morning TSH around 1.0. If it's higher, weight loss will be extremely difficult

Once the exogenous thyroid hormone stabilizes your thyroid problem, you will likely loose a little weight, but the goal is to make you euthyroid (normal) as opposed to hyperthyroid, where you would begin to loose a lot of weight. You will still have to watch your diet and exercise.

It is supposed to, but it hasn't worked for me. I am considering another type of thyroid medication. Check out the website, www.stopthethyroidmadness.com. I have seen others on yahoo answers comment that they gained weight while on synthyroid. I have gained 20 pounds while I am on it.

It really depends on how your body responds to the medication. However, most people do experience weight loss while taking Synthroid.
