I am a Visual/Media Arts major from Emerson College in Boston. I've lived in a CT all my life, and have been to NY many times. Many of my friends are L.A. bound, but I'm not comfortable leaving everything I know 3,000 miles away. I'm talented, and I'd rather do NY for film/video/audio, but is there enough visual/media work in NYC?

LA is a different culture than the NE. At least you are familiar with the hustle and bustle of NYC. That's an advantage. Some come to NYC, become overwhelmed with the fast pace, and disappear into the woods forever. As far as LA, if you like superficial folks with fantastic weather, LA is the place to be.

There is a lot of media work and entertainment in NYC but I'm sure L.A. has more. Rent in NYC is very expensive and you can't really find a decent and affordable apartment in NYC now. Plus, everything in NY is expensive. Personally, I've never been to Los Angeles but I'm going next month

NYC all the way! I am an actor and have lived in both places and even if you hadn't stated that you don't want to move 3000 miles away I would still reccomend NYC. The people are real, there are four seasons, you don't need a car, the people are real, central park, great people (did I mention the people?) LA is a shithole where everyone is mainly concerned with appearing cooler and richer than you.

Even if you could find work in LA, you sound like you wouldn't be comfortable there. I'm sure that if you're good enough you can make magic in NYC. Plus, the air is better. :)

Won't Emerson help you with this?
