The clarinet family includes: Ab clarinet, Eb clarinet, Bb clarinet; Alto clarinet; Bass clarinet, and Contra-bass clarinet.
The Ab and Eb clarinets play in the upper range. You don't see many of those instruments. You will see mostly the clarinet, bass clarinet and alto clarinet. The clarinet and bass clarinet play in the Bb key, while the alto plays in the key of G (like the alto sax).
The contra-bass plays with the bass line but I'm not sure what key it plays in. This might be what you are talking about.
The bass clarinet has a goose-neck and a bell. The alto clarinet has a small goose-neck and a smaller bell. The contra-bass has a big goose-neck and big bell, and usually the player has to sit on 2 chairs instead of 1.
All of the bodies are straight and the hands and fingers are in the same place.

As far as I know - there is no present manufacturer of a bass clarinet in C. There is a bass clarinet with an extension to low C (the lowest note is C) but that instrument is still keyed in Bb.
To correct earlier posts - a bass clarinet in C would be fingered the same as one in Bb but would play parts in concert pitch (such as directly from a tuba part) - there are historical instruments in C. In fact, every clarinet in the family is fingered the same regardless of key.
The alto is in the key of Eb as is the alto sax. The alto flute is in the key of G.
The contra-alto is in the key of EEb while the contrabass is in BBb.
The Eb soprano is not rare, it is common in many concert and military bands. The Ab soprano is rare in the USA but not in some places in Europe.
A bass clarinet is about 3' -4' tall depending upon design by each manufacturer. The "black wooden part" can be as many as three parts. The length would vary slighty by maker. The Bb bass clarinet with extension to low C would be longer than the instrument with range to low Eb.
The largest member of the family is the BBBb OctoContraBass of which only prototypes were ever made. The instrument commonly called a "contrabass" is most often an EEb Contra-alto. These can be straight, straight metal, and curved (paper clip).

I would say that the body of the instrument is about 3 feet long. I have never heard of a BCl in C before; they are usually keyed in Bb. Having a BCl in C would mean different fingerings and the overtone series would be different. With all the parts together, a bass clarinet is about 4 fee tall, the height of the player is a seated position.
