Hi, I got an offer to work 6 months for a staffing company names RANDSTAD.

Now the positive thing is that the billing company I will be work for has a good reputation and it is minimum commute. The down side is I've heard horrible experience with staffing company like they will treat you bad after you sign the contract, higher tax at the year end and the billing company will used temps like a work machine, or you will have difficulty being integrated with the permanent workers there.

This is not my only option and I can also chose to work at another company which is also nice, permanent, but 1h commute. I know people will find choice 2 much better, but I hate driving and I don't have difficulty to find another permanent job after the temp is over. However, if these stories about staffing, temp jobs are true, I will definitely drive 2hs everyday to get my bread. Thanks!

there are horror stories out there from disreputable companies, but they're not all like that. as long as this one has a good reputation, i wouldn't worry about it...and since it's temp, you can leave if you have problems. i worked for one for awhile, and had no problems.

Take the permanent job.
1. Temp work never looks good on your resume.
2. 2 hr commute vs. 8 hrs of hell (people who won't respect you and treat you like dirt, trust me they will because your not permanent. you're only there to complete their grunt work for 6 months, and they'll work u into the ground).
3. If the commute is so bad, think about the long term benefits, you can move closer to this job, or stay for one year to get valuable experience and then you might get a better paying and closer job.
4.How can you be so sure that you'll find a job in 6 months. You have no idea what the future holds.
5. Is working for a staffing company what u want to do? If you're looking to network and build contacts, go for it. Otherwise LEAVE IT ALONE.
Life is a hustle, do what is best for you.

I did temp work all through college! I loved it! No bad experiences to speak of, the agency treated me well, my taxes were normal, and the permanent employees rarely noticed me, let alone treated me poorly. It is actually great to get to work in many different places. You get tons of real-world work experience related to different career paths, and if you hate the job, it's only temporary, so you can move on if it's really bad and the agency will help you get in a new position most times. Also, sometimes even if the temp job isn't listed as temp-to-hire, the manager may eventually ask you to stay on permanently. It depends on your situation, but personally, I would choose the temp job. That way, you can be working and still looking for something permanent that is closer to you.

Good luck whatever you decide!!

Randstad is a pretty good company - but you are right, sometimes the other employees don't treat temps very well.

But, even that varies ... some co-workers are GREAT. I would suggest, since it sounds like you can find something else - that you give it a try. Just because the opening is for six months (don't tell them this) does NOT mean you have to stick it out if you hate the job!

Also, depending on the client company - some times these "long-term temp" positions are a way of seeing if someone will work out. They can roll over good workers to permanent, depending.

So ... if you were asking just me, I'd say try it. If you hate it, look for something else.

Best of luck!

I drive it everyday in Atlanta. You want the secure job. It will look so much better if you take something that people will take serious. Driving 2 hrs a day is not fun but I would choose the permanent job over a temp job, working for recruiters that don't care about you at all, any day of the week. Good luck.

Staffing companies are okay. Most of them treat you well.
