Can anyone tell me some games you play with your dog inside the house? There are times when going out to play is just not an option (too hot, storming, too late at night, etc...). Something that uses a lot of energy on his part would be greatly appreciated. I have a year old black lab and for some reason he is completely uninterested in ball playing outside today (it is really hot out and playing in his pool, while fun, does not take up a lot of his energy.) Any advice would be appreciated. I finally got him interested in playing with his squeeky ball, but ideas would be great for those other days when circumstances make it difficult to be outside.

1) Hide and Seek. It's great for training SAR dogs. Have him find a person or an object- make the hiding progressively difficult.

2) Have him sit across the room and play catch. The idea being you throw a sock or something at him and let him catch it in the air. He brings it back, etc.

3) Any basic obedience drills.

My favorite is #1. Hide and seek can be a lot of fun when you can't go outside.

Yeah... its fun to reinforce good habits while playing inside, and if possible train too! A fun game is chase...grab a favorite toy and run off with it until you have a chance to jump behind a corner and then JUMP OUT and scare the dog and chase it around. This helps reinforce your dominance and is fun and exciting, but always be sure that the dog is chasing the toy... not you... so I guess with a yearling you should probably just let them get the ball instead of jumping out, which might be more fun with older dogs.

For my dog we have a rubber ball and if you bounce it he goes nuts and plays with it, with someone or by himself for hours. Sometimes you have to get him started back up again. Also throwing things and playing fetch in a long hallway works well too. What I do with my dog Leo who is 9 months old is I grab a toy and wag it in his face and run around the house, stopping from time to time to show him how great the toy is and when he gets infront of me I say "AAH ITS A DOGGY!" and run in the opposite direction lol. Its great fun for him and his all time favorite game. Hope this helps!

Hi! We have a nine month old lab/staffy mix and she loves to play "find it" with her tennis ball. We take her ball and hide it somewhere, and tell her GO FIND IT!!! She sniffs and looks around until she finds her ball!! She then gets lots of good girls and a treat too! She loves it!! Works the mind, which burns more energy then running around!

to burn off energy i throw the ball up or down steps and tell my dogs to go get it-- it takes up a lot of energy and saves you!

Try different games until she shows interest in anyone.
