My pup came to me with kennel cough. We have been to the vet many times. the cough seems to go away after taking all her antibiotics and cough meds, but when they are all done it seems to come back. I dont know what more to do for her the doc must think im crazy because every time she goes to the vet she is never coughing. The vet even messes around with her throat and the vet never gets a response out of my pup, she eats and drinks good and has not lost any weight. My pup normaly coughs at night and during rough play with the other animals. She is a pug and cockerspainel mix. please help!!!!

Clean the house and get rid of the virus.

We did have a dog that could not get rid of KC (what was diagnosed as Kennel cough) At 9 months old we had a vet x-ray when an adopter brought him back continuing to cough.

The xray showed a long straight something near his heart sack. Not in his esophagus in the body near the heart. Of course we did the surgery and had the object removed. It was a six inch long piece of chain link fence. No sign of entry anywhere. Best guess was he ate it as a puppy and the cough that was diagnosed as KC was actually the body trying to force it back up and it went through the esophagus and all the antibiotics he had been on healed the wound and no one knew.

He was a pit lab and is now with an extremely old retired couple and loving life. They took him through obedience classes and he passed with flying colors. We were concerned him being young but he is already acclimated to to the rest of the family and their pets.

Maybe she has Asthma.
http://www.animalhospitals-usa.com/dogs/asthma.html
Pugs are prone to a "reverse sneeze" where the dog will quickly, and seemingly laboriously, gasp and snort. This is caused by fluid or debris getting caught under the palate and irritating the throat or limiting breathing.

In the most common, mild form of infectious tracheobronchitis (formerly called 'kennel cough'), antibiotics are usually not used in the treatment. If the dog has a good appetite and is alert, but suffers only from a recurrent cough, we will often let the disease run its course, just as we would with a cold in humans.

Overuse of antibiotics should always be avoided. More bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics; in fact, there are some bacteria which are virtually resistant to almost every antibiotic available. As a result, stronger and stronger drugs need to be developed, and there is always the possibility the bacteria will become resistant to these as well. If antibiotics are prescribed, be sure to give the entire prescription, even if the pet appears to have recovered. Not doing so may contribute to the development of resistant bacteria. This is bad news for both you and your pet.

Kennel cough is a virus just like our flu and anti biotics do not treat virus's.
Our dogs got it and vet told us to give them benolyn cough medicine.
Unless they are very young or old should be ok. Watch for any mucus around nose and mouth as that is dangerous.
As yours is a young pup and you have not had any respone as yet try another vet

After giving my puppy antibiotic injections for kennel cough, my vet recommended benadryl in small doses for the cough.

I had to supply my first dog four capsules a day for the final 4 years of her existence. The 2 matters that labored the excellent for us used to be chunky peanut butter and hot puppies. I would cut up one of the most tablets in half of to combination with the peanut butter and i received quite excellent about reducing the sizzling dog into simply the right dimension to quilt the pill but no longer too massive or she would have got to chew up the hot canine more than I wanted her too. I additionally obtained her very excited prior to giving her the capsules in order that she would wolf them down. Have you ever talked to the vet concerning the vomiting? You already know not to give puppies pork, correct? I realized that one the difficult means.

i know this sounds crazy but my dog meika did this when i first got her-- she noticed that when she coughed i gave her attention so anytime she wanted attention she would force herself to cough-- even my vet said that may be what it was and after watching for longer i knew that he was right! so hopefully this is all it is-- it may also explain why she does it when playing rough-- kinda like an adult "getting something in their eye, or a hurt wrist" that type deal-- dogs are smarter than we give them credit for-- good luck!
