Women often spend a good deal of time & money in an effort to look as young as possible for as long as possible. Women often feel that while men become "distinguished" with age, women just get wrinkly & old. Why give the whole thing away by telling your real age when you've tried so hard to conceal it? In this society, being a young woman is what female beauty's all about.

It doesn't matter with men, they can have no problem telling their age because age makes them "distinguished".
Women have to compete with all the twenty-something models out there. We are old if we are a day over 35. We fight with our weight after a certain age.
Men can be 45 and have beerguts or be 350 lbs and not have anyone telling them that they are old and fat. Older women just aren't accepted as beautiful in this day and age.
That is why women don't like telling their age.

I have no problem with it. I am 40 years old. But,I know what you're saying. I didn't know my own Mom's age until a year before she passed away.Even as a woman myself, I cannot explain why some women are like that. It seems like such an unimportant thing to worry about since, like you said, getting older is just a part of life.

I'm not truly sure although I've seen it a lot.
But I was totally shocked the other day when I saw this reality TV show in which this 30 year old guy is thrown in with 40+ women and under 30 women, all trying to seduce him and the 40+ girls are actually frighetning and giving the 20+ girls competition.
That's a really strange show!

It should make no difference, but apparently it does.
I think that with women, the reason is that it ties in directly with their sexuality. With women there is a perception that, at an older age they are unwanted and unattractive, while men can age much more gracefully (i.e. still be attractive to the opposite sex).
Again, this is just a common perception, unfortunately, it doesn't necessarily tie in with reality.

The reason why is because they dont want people to treat them like they are there age! Or look at them and say "Oh my you are very old" It is embrassing! It make them cry because they remember when they were younger and they want to go back! Sometime being old and being told that you are old will make you feel like you are closer to death for some not all!

LOL, my son took care of that for me the other day.
He said "My Mom's gonna be 50 on her next birthday".
I don't get upset about it though. In fact, I thought it was really cute.
