So, I'm moving out of state today to get my master's and i'm leaving my boyfriend behind. We've been going out 8-9 months now and he's my best friend. The huge majority of people I know say that long distance relationships never work and i'm really scared of what's going to happen to us. He's been trying to find a job where i'll be but what if he doesn't??? My parents are actually glad about this. Not liking him, they HOPE we'll break up. So, does anybody have any long distance relationship stories with a happy ending OR advice on how to make it work if he can't relocate?? Thanks!

It is tough, but long distance relationships absolutely can work. When my girlfriend and I were first together I joined the military. We spent about half of our first three years apart. There was a lot of money spent on postage and phone calls. There was also a lot of time spent apart after we were married due to my military duties. Invest in a decent computer so that you can spend time chatting or even a good webcam so you can see each other often. I am happy to say that September will mark our 18th wedding anniversary. It just depends on how badly you want this to work.

I have some friends that are still together after being apart for over a year. Of course they see each other at least once a month. It's only a 4 hour drive. They had been together 5 years. They will probably move to the same city and get married in the next couple of years.

I've been with my bf for a year and we have a long distance relationship. We try to meet often and that's good! But even when we can't we feel relaxed and happy because we trust our love and feel both happy with ourselves and our lives...
Try to meet when u can, organize meetings somewhere, buy a webcam...don't be scared when you'll have an argument while talking on the phone or chatting, it's upsetting because u r not 2gether and can't work it out but always try to be positive. Long distance relationships are not easy but they're not impossible!

I dated a guy long distance for two years.. they were some of the best years of my life and we absolutely adored each other.

However, when the time came and we could finally be together all the time, we discovered that absence indeed made our hearts go fonder and realized we would be better as friends. We remain close, but are no longer romantically involved.

But if you two truly love each other, you can make it! Just think of all the women who were in America during WWII while their young husbands were oversees for a year or even more.. and that was before e-mail and cell phones!

I think if you two love each other, you can make it work. I just hope your parents grow to like him somehow!

I met my fiance online 10 months ago (on a Tolkien fan BB) - he's from Germany & I'm from NY. We talked for hours a day on Skype for months, and eventually he came to the US & we got engaged. I'm currently waiting for him to return from the store and hoping he didn't get lost. ("All the roads are straight!")
He has to go back to finish his PhD, then he's moving here permanently.

i know this sounds a little childish but my girl friend a i have been together all summer. and we haven't gotten a chance to see each other because we only have our learners, and we live 45 mins away. so you can say because all we can do is phone/email each other ours has worked

I can't wait for summer to be over :(

U both need webcams. I know an engaged couple, one is in china and one is in alabama - they give those webcams a good workout.
