I am currently on a high protein diet. I'm 21 years old, 150 lbs and consume about 200 grams of protein a day and about 200 g of carbs a day (about 2500 calories a day). Everyday of the week i either jog and lift. For the most part I consume the carbs before the workout and the protein afterwards. Also the carbs that i take in come from whole weat bread, peanutbutter, and milk. I do not eat chips and other bad stuff. My question is that if i continune this routine will i get muscle and loose fat.

Ahh wayyy too much protein. My nutrition teacher would cringe. Protein should only make up 10% of your total calories, so based on your calorie intake, you should only be having 62.5 grams of it. Excess protein does not help your body get muscle. Your body will only use what it needs (the 62.5 grams). Excess protein is broken down and converted to sugars or fatty acids, which will not help you loose the weight.

Since you are eating good carbohydrates, instead of bad ones, your body is getting a more efficient nutritional value. Thus, making better use of the food you give to yourself. Had you been eating carbs from junk food you would just be getting sugar. However, in order to loose fat, you must burn it off. There is a saying that your "fat will turn into muscle" but this is NOT TRUE. It's impossible because they are two completely different types of cells. What will happen is you will REPLACE the fat with muscle once it's gone.

Your regimen should depend on what type of results you want. If you want to burn the fat quickly, you need to integrate lots of cardiovascular workouts into your regimen. If not, you WILL eventually loose fat with your original routine. Nevertheless, you may not appear as lean because your body naturally holds onto as much fat as it can.

Hope this helps you out.

Ur consumption of proteins is on excessive side. U shud not consume not more than 70gm in any case.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

Peanut-butter, unless organic, is very fattening. Try to avoid it (unless you have organic as this will probably add fat to your body).

Be sure you have at least 2 days of non-exercise each week to allow your body to recover and/or heal. When your body is at total rest, it builds muscle.

Make sure you are gradually increasing your weight amount when you life. Lift heavy over light.

Drink Low-Fat milk only. I am assuming you are intaking protein shakes as well.

You probably only need about 175 grams of protein at your weight but more can't hurt. Calories looks about right but eventually, as you gain more weight, you will have to increase your calories, as your body will need more.

On days that you do no lift, instead of jogging, do a combination of jogging and sprinting. Short sprints will burn off that fat faster than long jobs will. Combine both in.

PS - Lisa down there has no clue what she is talking about...people who lift weights need to intake at least 1-1.5x their bodyweight in grams per day. That is why I said u would be fine with about 175 grams per day. Go to any GNC and they will give u this same advice.

You don't give your height, but I don't see how you couldn't lose body fat on that regimen. So, yes. I am concerned that you didn't mention vegetables and fruit. A healthy diet includes lots of vegetables, some fruit, some lean protein, some low fat/no fat dairy, some whole grain and atleast 6 glasses of water per day. Stay balanced. Stay healthy, so you'll feel as good as you look.

Sounds like to much fat to me. Try low fat milk instead and I would also cut out peanut butter and stuff like that. If you want protein, rather drink protein drinks, those should contain less fat.
