Now that I think about it, I do not recall having three straight days of work to do. I do not think they need a full time body here, i think they can get away with a PT person....they are paying me GREAT money.

I am sure that half of YA'ers would think I should just sit - but its not in my blood or my character to do nothing. I think my skills are going to waste.

Has this ever happened to any of you? What did you do about it?

No stupid or negative answers - keep them to yourself.

I had a job once without anything to do and went crazy. I kept bugging my boss for more work and he kept saying stand by and I will get back to you. I stood by and nothing happened. So I played with the Internet all day. He saw that I was playing with the Internet, so I was cut off from the Internet by IT.

I told him I needed my Internet so I could at least look busy while he thought of assignments for me to do. I was told to stand by! Finally he got tired of me asking for work and fired me!

You can not win.

Then upgrade your skills. While you are not busy, you could be learning more about the Advanced Word or Excel, Access, or inputting your rolodex into Access. What is your job? Answering phones? If so, then just keep a trade magazine around. I know how you feel. Sometimes I would just redo my filing system, or transfer files to archives, just to keep busy. Try that. You could re-arrange the supply closet, really.

talk to your manager and explain what is going on and ask them if there are any other duties you can take on to help fill your day..the fact that you brought this to their attention will show great potential for future advancements.
