Statistics show at least 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. That number is on the low side, as it does not take into account miscarriages that occur before the woman has found she was pregnant. If God is totally in control of what happens does that make him an abortionist?

Hi Arewethereyet.
Are you blaming the woman who miscarries? I know MANY women who take very good care of themselves and desperately wanted a child who have miscarried.

Oh my. Arewethereyet, I genuinely hope you NEVER have a miscarriage. Everyone is calling this question ridiculous, but answers like that slip by the people who are quick to judge the questioner.

There's something about the word "abortion" that works people into an unthinking tizzy. However, it is quite true (as someone above pointed out) that a miscarriage is medically referred to as a spontaneous abortion. If people would step away from their emotions for just a few seconds, they might understand the point of this question.

The birth of a child is controlled by two entities: the mother and, if you believe, God. No matter how much one disagrees with the mother terminating the pregnancy, she has control over that situation more so than anyone else (besides God). To deny that denies basic human anatomy.

So, technically, both the mother AND God can be abortionists. And that isn't necessarily an insult. It's just reality.

Actually, I think the number is higher than 20%, but I'm counting the number of fertilized eggs that are never implanted; that's to satisfy the idea that the moment an egg is fertilized, a human being results. At the least, it shows that not all fertilized eggs are intended by some God to rise to the full status of born human being. One might wonder then, the status of salvation in such miscarriages.

If you look at the meaning of the word abort (here at http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/abort see it for yourself) you can see that it means to terminate early, whether you are using it in a medical sense, a military sense or aeronautically. If you see how creation works, if you see how nature operates and you know that God set it up to run this way .... then you would know that the loss of that fetus is something that was not meant to be.

God and nature do not work that way. We err, therefore there is death. We eat stuff that technically isn't even food, we drink Coke, which can eat through a nail in a week, and sit in front of a screen and do nothing but use our minds and our fingers to type. This is not how it's supposed to work, that is against nature, whether you believe in God or not.

So a woman with an unhealthy body, a lazy mind and a sagging spirit gets pregnant ... and the baby terminates, naturally. Don't blame God as an abortionist, He didn't cause that fetus to abort, that woman did with her unhealthy body. Not intentionally of course, don't be extremist, I mean that when we culminate our little vices, we end up with a big problem; our bodies can't tolerate the stress of pregnancy, it's barely able to work alone.

God doesn't cause miscarriage. They are just part of nature. It's not always obvious what the cause is. Why don't you ask your ob/gyn how they happen? I bet he/she would say the same thing.

Since Atheists don't believe in God, who would they blame for miscarriage?

i'm pagan, so i don't believe that there is an all knowing all-controlling god who says this and that. it just doesn't make any sense. when there's a problem in the world, people blame "god". when they need something, they ask "god". if this god doesn't answer, then they think it's cuz they've sinned, and that there's something wrong with them. if god is so great then why would "he" make people think like that. i think Cristianity is a form of torture that happens within a person. they bring it on themselves

I think a person's destiny is not always their own but entertwined with another's and another's..If the miscarriage causes a chain reaction in a person's life who are we to say what's good or bad in it? To question God? We cannot see our own destiny let alone see others or how exactly they are all entertwined.

Who said God was in control of everything? He set the stage, we do our little dance. Creating a baby is a miracle, for it takes so many things to come together perfectly. Babies that don't make it to term most likely have defects and would die without hospitalization. Animals in the wild often kill their babies if they sense something is wrong with them. It's survival of the species, and ours is dying.

Yet another question that can easily be countered by "don't question God's choices!" You won't get anything more intellectually stimulating than what I just said.

As a matter of fact, doctors refer to miscarriages as spontaneous abortion. So your point is well taken.
