I am an agnostic who wants to know how many atheists or fellow agnostics let christianity get under there skin and why? There seems to be quite a few on this site. They seem to point out hypocracy, were human and all have flaws. They point out how it is being forced on them. I dont see it, granted it is predominate but 80% of people in this country claim to be christian so that does put us in the minority. With each generation we become more liberal as a society. Things you see now in public, movies and music you didnt see 50 years ago. So as for their influence I dont believe it is that strong. I have seen some of you on here rant about how they come knocking at my door, well so do Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, people come election time, school sales, charaties etc. If it offends you that bad and you are a true person of your principles just post a sign at you door " If your selling Jesus dont come a knocking"

I have met some bad christians but to label an entire faith because of this is wrong. There are bad people in all walks of life.
Your thoughts?

Thank you. I never push my beliefs on anyone. My christian friends do not either. I don't understand why an atheist will hang out in this site then complain that we are forcing our beliefs on them.

I almost understand where you're coming from, but your points are jumping around.

We point out hypocrisy because Christians are indeed hypocrites. They want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to enjoy life as much as the rest of us, take advantage of everything, and they still want to be able to feel justified that someone is watching over them and they will live a good afterlife.

Jesus tells people it is not necessary to go to church. Indeed, it is better to pray quietly at home than on the streets or in churches for people to see. It would mean there will be no pressure for school prayer, public display of ten commandments, or mottoes of god on our currency, and in our pledges. Also, most churches will close if we all pray at home and they will not tolerate that. Remember that it is harder to go to heaven if you are rich, harder than a camel through the needle’s eye? How many Christians follow that? They are as earnest about making money, sometimes fraudulently and illegally, than the rest of us.

Christianity NEEDS to defend itself, but it does a horrible job and it knows it, hence what you are saying about the country becoming more liberal. The church knows it is losing power, and the last time that happened we had the Dark Ages.
It's different, now... people are unable to tolerate anything other than the status quo.

You STILL cannot deny, however, that non-believers are the last pariah. When do you think we'll ever see an atheist president?

You may not be aware of how much your life is constrained and impacted by religion. If you're in the US or Europe, a significant portion of the tax you pay is funding a religious war at this moment.

The people around you are being indoctrinated with discredited nonsense, that they are taught as the truth, about the origin of the universe, life and man. Your ethical boundaries are being set with greater regard for a nonexistent entity than for your fellow man. Your health is imperilled by people who want to stop medical progress in some areas. The laws that govern you are slanted in ways that are of no benefit to humanity.

It doesn't have to be that way.

It's not just hypocracy... it is scriptural manipulation.

Check out the extent of this manipulation in a fun free book. Gospel Enigma. Philip is the Harry Potter of theology.

this question is somewhat too beefy to be heavily responded on Yahoo solutions. A talk of kinds may well be the only useful thank you to talk considered one of those factor- hence, i might propose you to get right into a communique approximately this with somebody exterior of the Q & A format. additionally, there are various apologetics books which look to conceal the undertaking amply. those could have a rather superb array of arguments, yet quite, i think that individuals are extra moved by potential of own touch and talk as antagonistic to examining info and figures. And for the checklist, I even have continuously been an exceptionally skeptical individual, nevertheless keen to droop disbelief for the sake of arguments and hypothetical reasons. by way of dissimilar earnest evaluation and learn, i've got discovered myself as an veritably confident believer. for sure, I understand that it quite is perplexing for many human beings to comprehend the ideals of particular persons by using fact we are taught in this sort of vogue that we evidently lean in direction of disbelief in faith, whilst in certainty the two recommendations won't be able to be in comparison in parallel phrases; whilst they are, fake impact bursts forth.

Sign on the door might take care of the respectful ones but the ones who aren't of other's beliefs might on insist they go against one's wish and bang on your door and until you open or leave a pamphlet and still have public settings to hang out at to do their job of "saving people".

You are right this is the post-Christian era. Christians don't have the kind of influence that they once had. They still voice their opinion in areas of abortion and homosexuality, but it is largely ignored except by Atheists who can't stand that Christians have an opinion at all.

mountainman, Christians don't preach that we are born already condemned because of sin, they preach that we are born with a propensity to sin. I don't think that can be disputed.

Agreed! Why come here and mock someone's belief and not expect retaliation? I think the ones who do come here and make insightful remarks do so for the sole purpose of receiving remarks in return from Christians that would make them feel justified.

Oh come on. One of these idiots used to stand on the steps of one of the central class room buildings in college and accost people all day, every day. When one left, another showed up. You see them downtown in the bar district every night. And yes they do knock on my door. I had one ****** show up about 5:30 Thanksgiving Day just in time to interrupt the meal. They try to push their faerie tale into my daughters school, and real science out.

There is no way to get away from these morons. And it is nothing comparable to the Boy Scouts.
