They only seem to make sense, to me, but technically they don't really make a whole lot of sense. So are analogies tricking our mind, saying that it's a good point, but in reality, it isn't?

Example: Arguing over the internet is like running in the special olympics, Even if you win your still retarded!

Oh I'm sure if you won the real olympics, you would still be normal!!

Analogies are just pointing out the parallels in an unrelated situation. Its a way of giving scope to an explanation of a relationship being described by referring to another relationship that is more concrete..easier to comprehend.

What some people do is try and stretch an analogy to cover all aspects of the relationship in question. This is when they fall down and leaves the explainer wide open to ridicule

Good analogies make sense and can help someone understand a point.

Poor analogies are just an exercise in typing.

Some analogies make sense but others don't.

Sometimes people try to use analogies for there argument but acctually it support the other persons argument rather than theirs, that kinda funny though.

Analogies should be relevant to the topic. If it's not, what's the point. That would make a person seem not too bright.

You have yourself answered your question when you said that analogies do make a sense in a tecnical sense. That is the precise role of an analogy. If you want to ebut if you stretch the similie too far you would be making nonsense and not sense nalogies, similies do have a relvanance bu only for elucidation.

Your question is about analogies in arguments.

But in your example there is no argument.

analogy is only there to make a quick statement, analogies are no explanation

Exactly.

You can make any number of false analogies about any given subject. I do it all the time just because I enjoy the word play.

It all depends on the analogy.
They can be tricky, but a good analogy will help seal the debate.

If used properly they make complex arguments easier. However they can be abused or misused to easily if no true connection exists.

LOL! Good analogy...
