I was required to take one today to check iron levels but I'm wondering if they check for anything else? it was taken from my left arm, if that makes any difference.

I think if they were ordered to check you iron, that is all they will check for unless the doctor just said for a complete blood check, then I think they would check to make sure everything is working properly like your liver and kidneys. They can't check your blood for diseases like AIDS though unless you sign a consent.

Blood tests are carried out as the doctor requests them. If the doctor has only asked for iron studies then that is what the pathology will perform. The amount of blood taken and the different tubes that are used by the collector are simply dependent on what tests are requested by your doctor.
It makes no difference what arm the blood was taken from.
Good luck

It doesnt make a difference at all. Blood can be checked for just about anything, but they require different tests. If you are worried about drugs showing up.........you should be. They pop up in iron levels

As very small amount is required to check for anything, thanks to the auto-analyzers, practically any test may be carried out. And it makes no difference between right or left arm blood. Rather that from finger prick (due to squeezing) may be different from venous blood and so will be arterial.
Hope this helps!

At present a blood test can test blood for over 540 different problems. It depends on what the doctor see in his diagnosis.
