NJ and NY, I believe, are both states joined in the NRVC (Non-Resident Violator Compact). Basically, this is an agreement that a state will honor another state's punishment relating to driving suspensions, revocations, punishments, etc. This helps to punish people who think they can out run the law by just going to another state and getting a new license there.

i.e. If a person gets his license suspended for 2 years in one state and moves to another state, the state he moves to will give him a new license but it will be automatically suspended for the remainder of the original state's suspension period.

It doesn't matter where your license plate is from.

All the states that of know of use reciprocal agreements, so if you lose you license in any state you are going to lose it in the one you are licensed in!

They have to give you a written suspension order!

If you lose your license in my state for DUI or some other infraction, they also take your plates!
