English is about the easiest language to learn ; the rewards of being able to speak a foreign language are many , but most important is that it gives an understanding of a foreign culture and different ways of thinking and living .
I studied English in school (grammar for six years) and then again for four years in night school and found the best way was to have a firm foundation in grammar and then go and live in the country .

As English is my native language, it's not for me to comment.
Learning a foreign language does help you to communicate with more people, and does put you at an advantage if you can attempt to speak a person's own language in his own country - if no more than attempt!
Since English seems to be learned as a second language by more people than learn any other tongue, it's a good choice.
As with any language, you MUST hear it spoken, which means getting tapes or CDs.
The problem with English is that there are so many different pronunciations for a particular set of letters.
Consider -
Tough
Though
Through
Thorough.
Those 4 letters pronounced in a different way each time.

I think of english as the easiest language in the world
The best thing about learning a foreign language is that you get to communicate with a whole lot more people just by learning to speak it.
The best way to study english for me was going to school.

My first language is English and I've grown to love my language more .. I'm currently on holiday in Marrakech, Morocco and while I'm trying to find a T-Shirt in French or Arabic, most of them are in English! It gives me happiness in knowing there are those who admire my language!
I'm currently studying 3 languages - French, Spanish & Hebrew! I love languages, I think theyre really beautiful. Learning them opens doors for you and I am somebody who loves to travel!
Only speaking the language of the country of which you live - restricts you from meeting different people and going to different places. Being able to speak a fair amount of French & Spanish has already helped me to make some new friends.
The best way to study any language is to spend some time in that country, whether thats 5 days, 2 weeks or 7 years. You have to be able to recognise and pick up the accent! English is a difficult language - I'd chose London as the place to learn as the accent is clear in comparison to Birmingham or Liverpool.
Thank You!
& Take Care .. :-)

I think it's useful and simple language to learn, comparing to many other languages in the world.
Learning a foreign language not only gives you certain ability to communicate with people of another culture, but also provides you with an opportunity to a whole different and exciting experience.
The best way of learning English, in my opinion, is watching movies and sitcoms. try to catch those funny punch lines and word, they're really useful in life...

I am English but currently living in france. It is great to try and learn a second language as even though nearly everyone I know speaks English it is polite to try and speak the language of the country you are in.
English is a very important language for others to learn as I have seen that in my industry (scientific research) work is only recognised if it is submitted in English
The best way to learn is to watch English tv, listen to the radio and speak to native speakers.

English is fine for me, it's my mother tongue and it works in most parts of the world.
Probably the most rewarding thing about learning a foreign language, especially for a Brit, is that you can communicate with other people and don't come over like an imperialist idiot.
Total immersion. Go to the UK, Australia or the USA. Most people in those countries only speak English. You'll be on your own and you'll have to learn.

most useful language to know
large vocabulary
i think the best way is to study it for a little bit then go to an English speaking nation and immerse yourself in it.
BTW. even though I'm a native speaker I have heard from other non-native speakers that American style English is the easiest to learn and pronounce for foreigners.

i personally don't like english. i prefer spanish and french. But that is only because i am english.
The most rewarding thing about learning a language is that you know that when you hear people talking in say, spanish. You can understand them when over people can't. You feel knowledgable because you can understand them. The best way to study english is to go to a schoola and learn it. Or a club if you are older. Also, reading in english is good. That is only when you are more fluent with your english though.
I learn spanish, french and German. And if i said which one would i prefer to speak (including english) as much as i don't like it, i would still choose it because it is (i think) the 2nd largest spoken language in the world.
