What most of you know about China would fit in a thimble, what most of you THINK you know would fit in a barrel.
I really wish some of you people would do some homework instead of posting stuff you know little about and are apparently relying on talking heads that fill up your head with garbage.
China is most of what you want her to be and little of what you think she is.
Here is what a few minutes of research turned up.
Forced Abortion: Widely reported in the west, especially with anti abortionists and largely wrong. The one child rule will not be changed in China for obvious reasons but there are exceptions. Farmers and those in rural area’s are allowed two or three, some religions are not under the law, and the one child rule is widely disregarded in cities were those that can afford to pay the fines have more then one. I have students that have brothers and sisters. However, forced abortions could be construed as correct if a family (or woman) can’t afford another child, then she must get an abortion or face an expensive fine. How much that is I don’t know nor do I know how that fine is administered as I have not met anyone who has affected, indirectly or otherwise. As far as I can find out, it seems people understand the responsibility of keeping their families small, plus Beijing has recently started a campaign that ostracizes the rich who circumvent the law by paying the huge fee’s. There are problems with the one child rule, such as gender selection. According to the CIA book of world facts, the ratio at birth is 1.11 males to every female. Overall, it is 1.06 males. The USA it’s 1.05 males at birth and 0.967 males overall. Worldwide it is 1.07 males and 1.014 males overall. Beijing has taken notice and recently outlawed gender selection and limited the use of sonograms.
The one child policy that is a favorite of everyone from anti abortionists to China haters. Fact is, if China had not instituted that policy there would be 1.7 billion people in China, not 1.3 billion as of now. That is an increase of more then the USA population and China is roughly the same size as the states with a little less arable land. Inevitably there will be some gender selection since male children are desired and this has brought about some imbalance, so the government has stepped in and has made that a crime, along with punishing the doctors that are involved.
Is China Communist?
Dictatorial totalitarian one party rule: First, China is NOT COMMUNIST, communism and capitalism are polar opposites, therefore that label is misleading and wrong. Even cold warriors like Henry Kissinger agree to that. China is communist in name only, even my students’ laugh at the very mention of China being communist. The only way I can describe their system is to say it is one that is in transition from communism to democracy. As of now non party members can hold positions as high as mayor. Albeit that is rare, nevertheless only a few years ago that would have been unheard of. There is an election system in place, but it is very low key and only goes up to the province level where party members are elected by other party members to represent the people in Beijing. The elections are held at different times for each province. There is no such thing as national elections in China. All of that can be found at www.china.org.cn. Is China totalitarian? We often hear of it referred to as such. The definition, every aspect of life is under strict state control, often through coercive measures. Since individuals are free to travel, open a business, quit their job, find new employment, and pretty much do everything we Americans are accustomed too, then the definition is inaccurate. What about dictatorial rule? The definition doesn’t fit since President Hu is elected by their legislative body, he must answer to them as well. The one party rule system however is firmly in place and will be here for a long time. There are other parties but they are controlled by the Communist Party. However, looking at it in a different way, the party consists of hard liners to capitalists. The one thing I see, it’s working for China.
Since China has gone from a truly dictatorial totalitarian rule for the last 5,000 years to pretty much the opposite in the span of 50 years, its time to give China credit instead of continually bashing her.

I really hope in the future some of you do some real research instead of posting the same tired ill gotten and mostly wrong dogma that all of you are being spoon fed.
Signed, an Ex Pat from the USA who, unlike all of you, is living in the heart of China and has done a lot of research to really find out the truth.
Peace
Jim

Nicely said " Hakim "
Socialist China have been able to rule out the 1 family 1 child law, but what about smaller and democratic India which is only millions of people behind China in population. - India never seems to worry , because its expert actuaries have predicted that once the population has reached a certain amount, then it naturally n automatically will balance itself evenly by decreasing fast or slowly.
Why China is far ahead in this propaganda then the west !! one reason is as what HAKIM has already said and the next reason is because China's business and economic status can reach only a certain maximum height for a certain time frame and to optimize and leverage these achievements to the maximum throughout china evenly - then it needs an ideal population and only then its vision of a developed nation can be achieved.
remember also as a communist and dictatorship its far easier and effective to implement such law or social structure effectively among its community relative to a democratic nation.

China has birth rate problem.Their population is very dense, while the west has almost zero rate birth rate.In any case China is discouraging her population from giving birth by limiting a child to a couple while some countries in the west are encouraging their population to give birth because their population is ageing.

Are you nuts? China has huge problems with population control. The fact that they traditionally prefer boys over girls has led to huge problems where many men now can't find a wife. The restrictions in the number of children you are allowed to have mean that China is now facing massive population aging problems.

Else they will collapse due to their own weight !!
Remember in 1900 , world population was about 1 billion and that 1 billion was supported by the whole earth's resource, but today China is reaching 1.4 billion population and supported by land and resources only as much and as big as china is !!!!!

elevating in charge adults is wishful thinking. some would be, some won't. there is not any "one length suits all" answer to this. the real solutions is to make it socially unacceptable, no longer enact regulation. China is conscious this, yet by using emergency of a extensive inhabitants, plus the time it takes to alter societies norms made enacting a regulation essential. Sucks, exceptionally for the anti abortionists, even nevertheless it quite is taken under consideration one of those problem-unfastened experience subjects that alludes the fundies like maximum issues in existence do. Yada yada yada, yea i know, existence is sacred, yet what's extra significant is to dodge a disaster it particularly is honestly interior the making if administration replaced into no longer enacted. Like I suggested, problem-unfastened experience eludes a good number of in this subject, that its frightening.

If they keep it up the way they are they're going to "Advance" themselves right into extinction.
The earth used to do the job pretty well for us. We used to have a good population-decimating phenomenon every 50 to 100 years (plagues, famines, imperial conquests, etc...) But we've decided that we are going to outsmart the earth and take over. The last thing that came even close was WW2. We're due for a good apocalyptic event any time now.

Because it is more important for them, their very existence depends on controlling that massive Chinese population. Like most third world countries, having babies is the obsession of the family, and that is the main force causing this massive overpopulation of our planet. The US found ZPG, but lost it with this massive influx of illegal immigrants.
