From where I am viewing things, I believe that we are accelerating rapidly toward the conclusion of this phase of beingness. What used to be, almost pandemic ignorance of just about every important circumstance of 'Life' here, we have this marvellous 'toy', which is, of course, quite the reverse, the Internet. This vast medium of free communication ( as opposed to the totally orchestrated mass media of television and radio ) is expanding our ability to explore at an exponential rate.
The actual course of data acquisition has shifted, science is realising that 'truth' is totally subjective, which is very 'good' for 'science', eventually the world of 'facts' will be completely re-defined, adjusted to suit the conditions in which 'reality' itself unfolds.
This is leading to the understanding that our entire approach to 'spirituality' has gone wildly off course in the last few thousand years. We are not learning anything new here, we are remembering what we always knew, that we are all connected, and that when we are connected our minds are 'networked' in such a way as to form one ( 'One') Collective Mind, and it is that which we mean when we speak of 'God'.
There is a phenomenom in the world today, it goes by many names, Indigo, Crystal, whatever, it refers to our children who are being born in ever greater numbers with less and less of the 'veil' of forgetfulness drawn down over their mind/brain composite. This is so much of a issue now that in the United States of America alone there are estimated to be over 4 million children being drugged with tranquilisers like Ritalin to keep them from shining their 'Light'. They are described by teachers and medical people alike as being ADD or somesuch label.
We used to call them 'genius' not so long ago, when there were just a few dozen manifested around the world at any one time. Now they are appearing in their millions we drug them !
But no matter, that will also work it's way out.
The old religions are beginning to release all of their pent-up negative control energy, and although it might appear that they are regressing this is just the pendulum swing, they will have to adapt to new conditions or perish. The latest outburst by this penultimate 'Pope', is a desperate attempt by an organisation that knows that it's own end is near.
Spirituality was never meant to be confined within one Dogma, not of any religion. It is a deeply personal thing, for each of us to determine in our own singular way. Science is marching with awakeing awareness towards confirming that this the 'real' reality.
We are not subjective beings in an objective Universe at all, we are objective beings in an entirely subjective Omniverse.
We are not living in a Dark Age, we are emerging from one. Into the greatest 'Light ' of all, total Cosmic Awareness. :-)))

A good question, but I am not sure whether I can answer for anyone else but me. Personally, at this moment, I feel like both an opening flower and an utter failure as a human being. It is a paradox born of projecting part of me and holding the bad stuff in while trying to convert it to good stuff and being subject to the ego that won't die. Part of the way I will view the world and humanity in it is based on where I am in my own spiritual development. I am struggling, so the world looks uncertain, the people in it cold, distant and asleep. I can't look to other people for an accurate bellwether of spiritual evolution, only to myself. Sometimes I feel almost awake, but when I look at others when I am in this state, I feel isolated and set apart in a world that is not part of reality. When I am most connected to others (a rare occurrence), I feel a flow but also a constriction. It is a paradox I have not learned to reconcile, so I sidestep it by saying it will show itself to me one day.
The truth (one of em anyway) is that everyone is standing on a square on the spiritual gameboard; some see the other players, some see the end of the path; some see the edge of the board; some see all of these. How to play "follow the path" in the best possible way? I think humanity is the same overall, but each of us stands in a different square than we did perhaps 10 years ago, and from where we stand now, the gameboard might look different.
I hope that made sense to someone! Cheers!

I think the world at large has gotten worse in terms of the spiritual aspect... Because if we are actually getting better then we must have been living or at least leading towards better life conditions. I think it's an indicator. When people feel closer with God, then there must be some good things that are reflected in the social setting but look at us, more and more people are becoming poor and crimes are still rampant... Our consumeristic lifestyle is keeping us from really being with God. Sometimes, going to church doesn't even make us better or more responsible with our moral obligations to other people. Oftentimes what happens is that we end up being cynic with our lifeworld. Instead of forwarding and really struggling to set things right, we end up giving up-- the culture of resignation that we have. We find ourselves failing to fulfill our individual missions in life. Sometimes, we also become too dependent in Him/Her that we even forget to do our part at the thought that he could make everything possible. I think what we need is a God who could make us live the right way even if He doesn't exist or even if there really is no God. I've always believed that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men/women to do nothing. (that's from Edmund Burke if I'm not mistaken) If good people cease to envision and act positively about our world, no one's going to do that for the world anymore.
We've definitely gotten worse in almost all aspect of human existence and unless we'll choose to do something about it we might end up regreeting what we've become in the near future.

I believe both. Some of us have learned to understand better life and the universe, spiritually speaking. But others have become very hard headed. In the past, philosophy and mythology, made the people ask questions, made them analyze the spiritual world. Currently, people don't like to think, they just want fast answers from other persons. That's why there is a lot of spiritual ignorance. And for those of us who think, it's better now, because we have a lot of material to research, and great tools and places to fuel our spiritual growth.

I think we are getting more polarized, and it grieves me. I also believe this program, Yahoo Answers, may help bring about a solution to that polarization. When people learn more about the issues, they can find the sensible middle ground, the tolerance of differences as well as they convictions of their own principles.
I also think we can go a long way toward recognizing the connections between moral values and spiritual development, the fact that honorable people can pop up anywhere, in any culture, and can help their own culture to communicate with others of good will.
Let's not give up hope yet.

I think humanity is at an all time low. You used to be able to trust people, places used to be clean, you had to work to get things and working for something was worth something. Now people will stab you for the change in your pocket.
Spiritually, i hope the whole issue is gradually clearing up. More and more people are hopefully leaning toward science instead of faith, until that happens, definately a dark age.

There is a paradox pointing in either direction yet the increased world tension has the ability to produce increased light and love. We're seeing what is taking place and tuning in to new visions for the planet.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish."
This increasing world tension focuses the vision of millions and opens eyes to what needs to happen. New groups, like the Cosmic Cluster are being born to shine light on Oneness or Unity.
In the words of AAB,
"These groups will demonstrate no sense of separateness; they will be unaware of personal or of group ambition; they will recognise their unity with all that exists, and will stand before the world as examples of pure living, constructive building, creative activity subordinated to the general purpose, beauty and inclusiveness. Perhaps in the early stages of integration, the words friendliness and co-operativeness best describe them. They are not interested in dogmas or doctrines, and have no shibboleths. Their outstanding characteristic will be an individual and group freedom from a critical spirit. This non-criticism will not grow out of an inability to see error, or failure to measure up to an idea; falsity, impurity and weakness will be recognised for what they are, but when noted will only serve to evoke a loving helpfulness."
Visualize it, dream it and help it happen :-D

beliefs confused
with truth
distance always rules,
they make nice but
you wll never be
what you hoped
always yearning
in your mind,
give it up, world
is what they define
it is never your line
of verse, you thought
you are one, how silly,
but lost the words
you always wanted
to give...
nothing left but to forgive
and accept the truth...
they make the rules...
lapdog you are,
at best, it is an empty quest...
the rules of the universe will prevail, we are just on a binge right now, believing our behavior has no consequences, the mass media has conditioned us to believe that. We are but Pavlov dogs, unfortunately the bell ringer trampled all laws of kindness and compassion. But the pedulum has no choice but to swing both ways... if we do not see the truth, the truth will be knocking on our door soon to see us, and we will have no choice but to open the door... we will evolve spiritually or perish...

Spiritually speaking, I think humanity has gotten worse. Whatever religion we speak of here - people are now more engrossed in work, in technology, and in social life that most of the time - people forget to worship or do their religious exercises. In ancient times - it used to be a taboo for people not to pray or to attend to religious sessions... but now, people are more inclined to make excuses when they neglect their religious duties. Excuses would include - urgent work, scheduled trips, etc.

As far as Christianity, worse.
I can say this because of several influences that permeated much of the church, perhaps the one that left the deepest marks would be the liberal theology that developed in and came out of Germany in the 1800s.
Think of Karl Barth as pretty much the leader in this. His Neo-Orthodoxy was not new, nor was it orthodox. It was, however, accepted.
