This may sound silly - but draw it on with marker. You'll get a better idea of placement, color, and size. You can draw it on, admire it and decide if you like it or not, and try another.
Remember what you're career path might be, I have a half-sleeve and I really want to take it all the way down, but not sure how my bosses will react. For a first tattoo - consider a place where it can be covered up if needed. I know tats are more common place, but not everyone excepts them. I have many.

Keep in mind this: You wont be a punk rocker or party girl your whole life. You will eventualy grow up. When your a mature and successful woman would you want to go to a dinner party and have a tattoo of a skull on your arm? Won't make a very good impression.
Tattoos are forever, but the way you want to portray yourself isnt!

I have tattoo's , full back , upper selves , I don't regret them , However they are easily covered with a tee-shirt , their are those people that will cross your path in life that will make judgments or even designing based on your appearance , perhaps you should keep this in-mind where you might place them , they don't come off if you change your mind , they are addicting , can be painful when you get them , you can ask me more on 360 later if you would like .......

Well, if you don't even know if they will look right on you, how will us strangers know? If you have any, any doubts then I would in no way get a tattoo.

get temporary tattoos - use henna or something, and see if you like the look of it on your skin. if you think so - keep redoing it, see if it has any negative effects on life etc. if not, and you definitely still want it - why not?
