God truly does speak to our heart, and soul, but also to our ears and our conscious mind. The Bible tells us that the Prophets Spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
Holy Scripture is the perfect, unerring word of God.
God Speaks to us through Scripture, and tells us everything that we need to know. God does not however tell us everything that we want to know. Remember the garden of Eden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Our sin full nature makes us want to be like God (or to be God).
Also: As we study Scripture we receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has many gifts, some receive only 1 (FAITH) or 2, others receive all of them. This is how God speaks to our heart and soul.
I know that God hears my prayers because he often answers them in real and tangible ways. This is another way that God speaks to me.
God, our Father speaks to all mankind, if one does not hear God, it's because one is not listening.
God also speaks to us through the Sacraments. We receive the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Baptism.
If you have not been baptized, do it.
If you have; pray that God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit would enlighten you with the Spirit.
Mark

The problem is when he speaks to your mind and ears its too easy to mold God to what you want him to be. That's a problem with most personal deities.
Hate Muslims? God said I should start a crusade.
Hate Women? God said a women has to be subordinate to a man.
Hate gays? God said being gay is a sin.
Hate atheists? God said I should spread his word by any means necessary.
People should stop believing God is speaking to them and telling them exactly what they want to hear and they are doing wat is right.
If he does exist would he be telling us all the crap people say come from him?

Because God speaks to our hearts, not our ears!
Response - first, we are not speaking to His ears. We are speaking to His heart as well, and since God dwells within us, it can be a pretty quick trip from our heart to His, and back again.
Second, there is usually a peace that one feels, or a load lifted, or there will be something that will happen. A lot of times it's just this little inner voice, giving advice or encouragement.
Finally, one has to be open to listening to God. He's not going to shout it out or send you an email in 60 point font. And many times we are so busy in our daily lives that we miss the times when He speaks, or we don't like what He is saying so we ignore it.
Look at the story of Samuel, when he was called. Lying in a bed sleeping, with Eli next door. God's voice wakes Samuel and sounds so real that he goes to Eli as wants to know what he needs. Eli has heard nothing! Only Samuel can hear, as he is the one to whom God is speaking.

Not only Christans, my friend. Everyone talks to god, the universe, all-that-is, your higher self, whatever you view as a higher source of knowledge. And all-that-is answers and speaks to everyone. It may be possible that people just don't hear it clearly.
PS: I have to wonder, again and again, why deny yourself an entire segment of life - the non-material part of it? And yet, every child had natural-born access to it. Granted, organised religion of any sort can push people away from their own higher being but my question is: why let it? Why throw the child out with the bathwater?

Joan of Arc claimed to have heard God speaking to her. Peter the Hermit (who actually started the crusades) claimed that God spoke to him too. Rasputin claimed to have had constant discussions with God.
And half mediterranean (christian) women have had at least once in their life a private conversation with Virgin Mary...
(Oh, those mothers... always interfere...)

Christians who build up themselves spiritually by praying in the Spirit will have spiritual ears to hear God speaking to them. I testify to this. God speaks to me.

Really?
President George Bush has claimed he was told by God to invade Iraq and attack Osama bin Laden's stronghold of Afghanistan as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, security for Israel, and a state for the Palestinians.
George Bush believes he is on a mission from God, according to the politician Nabil Shaath. The President made the assertion during his first meeting with Palestinian leaders in June 2003, according to a BBC series .
It shows you HOW INSANE, AND DELUDED CHRISTIANS ARE.

God speaks to me, but I don't talk about it too much because to disbelieve my words brings judgment upon all who disbelieve. Jesus Christ came to save mankind and he had the perfect relationship with God, but he also did not say too much about God speaking to him, yet God spoke to him every day. Life is not about words but action. Galatians 5:6
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Maybe you have never heard of this because if you did you would not believe it anyways?

He speaks through His word, and usually only to you so others don't hear, actually it's supposed to be personal, a relationship involving two. By the way why are you listening?
