cardio is the only fat burning exercise - do it 4-6 times a week for average of 45min (running, jogging, cycling, swimming, rope jumping etc), it will make your legs look better as well
sit ups and crunches only make you gain muscle UNDERneath the layer of fat - they do not burn fat

The women I know do stairs. They walk up 15 steps and back down and repeat three to five times or more depending on the women. This exercise is good for the legs, butt, cardiovascular system, and will decrease the little bits of fat around the waist. You can also try an exercise called lunges. To do this you lunge one leg forward and bend at the knee so its a 90 degree angle then push yourself up in standing position. So, basically you stand in one spot lunge forward and then push yourself up back into the starting position. Do one with one leg then switch to the other and go back and forth. You can look it up on line for pictures and instructions. I found this works really good for the legs and but. For stomach I recommend sit ups but I and most people have found that doing sit ups doesn't get you a flat stomach it is getting rid of the fat around the waist. Sit ups will strengthen the abs but if you do stairs or lunges plus sit ups in the same day it will burn the fat and tone up the bottom half of your body and the upper half will get a mild workout from just moving around. You will feel a lot healthier too.

With a good exercise and diet plan, you should be able to loose 3lbs of fat a week. Notice I did not say loose 3 lbs. Many diets will cause you to lose mainly muscle, and in the long term will make you more fat and unhealthy. You could easily gain weight (muscle weighs more than fat), and still lose fat and look a lot better. Sit-ups put too much stress on your lower back, and are not the best exercise to stimulate the rectus abdominus. Do crunches instead, there are plenty of places to find out how to do them properly. On the other hand, it is important to know that you cannot spot reduce through exercise. Your body will eliminate fat over your entire body, not any one spot. The best way to burn fat is to build muscle. Don't worry about looking like a body builder, it wont happen. Join a good gym, do a good heavy work out that splits your body parts into 2 sessions a week. A good example is to do your upper body on Monday, and your lower body on Wednesday. On the off days, do about 30 minutes of cardio that raises your heart rate, but not like they do in aerobics classes. These classes are designed to build the wallet of the gym owner and instructor, and will do virtually nothing for your fitness. Google "circuit training". It is important to vary your intensity. Steady state aerobics is bad. Eat plenty of meat, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and be sure to drink 3-5 glasses of milk a day. Don't eat anything out of a box. These are some of the basics. I know that you are concerned about your wedding, but good health and nutrition will pay you back your entire life.

I read this in Self or Glamour I think, but what you can do is this : suck your stomach in hard for 5 seconds and release." They said it was just as good as a sit up. I am not fat, just not as toned as I would like to be, and I used to do it at this boring night job I had. It did seem to help.
