...spend so much time in Religion and Spirituality? Seems like they would rather go pull the wings off flies or something.

ATHIEST can be compared to a person who don't know how to keep ONE relationship. Until I became a teen-ager and starting to like somebody, marriage was far-off from my mind. Adults would adviced that LOVE is not all there is. It will not bring food to the table. But, LOVE is everything! ATHIEST are people who has shallow roots of LOVE, or just overly educated/rich beyond their means and forget that W/O a CREATOR nothing is created.

We've answered this question so many times I can't help wondering if the whole point of your question was to get in the gratuitous comment about pulling wings off flies.

This is not a club house for religious people, nor even for "religious or spiritual" people. This is a category for sorting questions. Questions about religion and spirituality are the legitimate topics of interest for atheists. Just as zero is a number, an atheist is a part of the spectrum of religious and spiritual thinking. It is thinking that there is no god, rather than thinking about the attributes of gods and/or goddesses. But it is on topic, and they belong here as much as anyone else.

Everyone has the right to ask and answer in any category, not matter what. They must be polite, but they have the right to every category.

Possibly for the same reason that so many religious people try to convert everyone to their specific religion. Because they feel that they have a good perspective on life, and they want to share it.

For athiests, though, I think it goes beyond that. They look at the history of religion and they see many ancient belief systems that at the time were considered Truth. Those belief systems were accepted on faith. Today, almost no one in the world has faith in those ancient gods. The Greek gods and the Roman gods definitely come to mind. In the Bible, there is mention of cultures praying to many gods. Visit the "Wikipedia; Origin belief" page linked below for a large list of belief system origins. The point that most Athiests seem to make is this: there have been many, many belief systems throughout history, and all ancient beliefs are now considered untrue stories that were believed by the ancient peoples because they were trying to find a reason for our existence. Their argument is that logic tells us that all current religions will also meet the same fate.

Logically, they have a point. It is only faith that keeps religious people from coming to the same conclusion. Because religious people would agree that all past belief systems, and all of today's belief systems that don't align with their beliefs, are wrong. Faith alone allows religous people to adhere to their religion.

So, it makes sense for Athiests to engage in conversation on a Religion and Spirituality board. They believe that they are right. And a logical look at history--ignoring faith--supports their position. If religious people felt that millions of people were fooling themselves, wouldn't they also try to educate those people so they could see the truth?

Oh wait, they do....

(And, I think most people on boards like this--from both sides--enjoy the confrontation. The give and take. They enjoy the process of the debate.)

They're bored, and they want to ridicule and make fun of religious people (i'm not religious, but I'm not an atheist either) I just hope they don't have any personal info on here, or they might run into the wrong "nutty" person......http://apnews.myway.com//article/20070726/D8QKES4G0.html
