The truth is...it means a lot of things depending on the spiritual person's belief. Primarily, it does mean exactly that one does not believe in organized religion filled with hypocrocy, but is accepting and supportive of those who do. They believe they do not have to attend church, dedicating 20% or more of their income for the collection plate, and having stones cast upon them for their unwillingness or inability to do so, or that they will go to hell for it. They are accepting because they do believe in God. Mostly, the one true God and to worship no other God. They believe that God knows their heart and fear His consequences of falsely following an organization in fear of scrutiny and damnation of their neighbors rather than for His worship and praise. They do know the bible, THE bible meaning many different organized religions revisions, and live their lives not only believing in God as forgiving and peaceful, but also accepting the consequence of sin and lack of repentance. Some view "spirituality" differently meaning that we are spiritual beings knowing life does not end after death and the body we live in is a temporary vessel in which we are to contribute to our fullest potential while here. It can be viewed as broad, but is not BS or unable to make a decision, or disbelief in God, or lack of faith, or only hearing what they want to hear from the bible. It means exactly the opposite in that they do have faith, knowledge and acceptance of many religions, belief in their higher power, lean on him for strength and guidance, pray to Him, live life by the golden rule to do unto others and support and guide their fellow man in the faith of their choosing. They do know God is strong and just but do not believe that he will damn any one religion on judgement day because they called him the wrong name or wore flip flops to church. Bottom line...I'm not religious but spiritual means that I know that my conscious is God's word written straight to my heart and I will heed it's warning and share it's message of love.

Religions are organizations. A person can be spiritual and not believe in any given doctrine and not be a part of a religion. It's a matter of understanding that there are things in this world that science hasn't explained yet. Trying to gain a greater understanding of the world.

Spiritual means. belief in higher powers with or without a man living in a cloud. Spirituality existed long before religion capitalized on it.

Generally that they're wishy-washy and like the idea of a loving, forgiving God but not a God who is holy, righteous or who will one day judge them. These are people who pick and choose their beliefs to suit themselves and only take seriously the parts of the bible that make them feel good. They're open to any new idea that makes them feel better about themselves but want nothing to do with the idea of sin or judgement. The bible calls such people who manufacture a God for themselves "idolators." The bible warns that in the end times people will reject sound doctrine and teaching in favor of preachers who will tell them what their "itching ears" want to hear.

just what it sounds like. they don't affliate with any particular religion but recognize the inate human need to worship, something, anything. sometimes it just means a person is "in tune" with cosmic energy, i.e. God without any set standard. I don't believe a cosmic force threw us together and left us on our own. I believe God is pure spirit, pure energy, pure love. This love was manifested through His creation of the universe and us. The rest of the story is found in the Holy Bible, if you believe that God loved us enough to actually give us instructions....most people deny it.

According to my understanding Religion is more structured and external. Spirituality is freer, more personal, broader. Religion helps you achieve spirituality, but if it doesn't, then set it aside for a while.

It means that you choose not to follow the doctrine and dogma of any particular organized religion, however, you still believe that there is a God and that somehow He/She/It (whichever the case may be) has a role to play in our lives and that possibly there be more for us after this life is over,

It means that they do not have a relationship or belief with God, but they have feelings, faith, and they are understanding.
These types of people are high in faith but, will not turn to a higher point when their faith runs out.
See the Lord renews your faith when you loose all hope, "spiritual people but not religous", have no way of coping with tragedies or let-downs.

I don't think that they are full of BS. When people say that, they probably mean they aren't bible dwelling Chrisians. I think it means that they believe in a God, but they do not currently have a close relationship with him. Like my father for instance, he is Christian and lives his life in a good manner, but he doesn't go to Church every Sunday.
