We were commanded by Jesus to preach but some people are just lazy to it, they say that it takes away their time and have more important things to do, thats what some people have told me. As Jehovah's Witnesses we take this command very seriously and thats why we preach 24/7 all over the world in over 234 countries in many different languages letting people know about the changes god will make soon and about his kingdom. It's just an awesome thing to do.

Because they and you were not called.

In verse 16 you will find that an appointment was required to receive that command and it was only given to those men who had performed the closest service. Ahead of them in 50 days was Pentecost, persecution, and then the short ministry of Matt. 28: 19,20 and then death.

Further in Scripture you will find that preaching is part of the five fold ministry to the bride of Christ; again something a man must be called to by the Holy Spirit.

Taking that command without authority is like taking a police officers badge and gun; thinking you can waltz out on the street and enforce the law without being sworn in or trained by a master teacher.

A lot of people have done just what you suggest and they will stand the white throne judgment for it; along with a lot of preachers who taught such nonsense.

Some people are not aware of it. Jehovah's
Witnesses have been doing it for a long time, also some Mormans talk to people. I have heard recently that there are some other religious groups trying to do the same (where I live), but in an unorganized way (meaning they don't keep track of where they have gone and stuff like that). I think some people doing this are trying to do what Jehovah's Witnesses have been doing for a long time.

Blindness, lazy, fear.

Most people are spiritually blind and would not want to see if they could. That is because they are lazy, having been taught they only have to lay around and say "I believe in Jesus!" every once and a while to get "saved". Others are afraid they might have to do something different. It is comfortable to continue doing the same repetitions for life. To change scares some to death.

Because the purpose of verses like that is to get devout Christians to pass on God's message that Jesus gave to them. If you go around literally preaching to everyone, then everyone feels that you are trying to force your views on them, and they don't listen. You effectively are defeating your own purpose my assuring that those that you want to reach the most will not listen to you. I know some Jehovah's Witnesses, and they are good people. But, the people that I know who are not Jehovah's Witnesses will not even answer the door if they see a Jehovah's Witness walking up their drive. Most people who are not actively religious in our society will actively try to avoid even speaking to them. They can't very well pass on the message if they've alienated the people that they want to talk to so much that they won't listen to even a word!

There are other parts of the Bible that say things like "lead by example", "actions speak louder than words", "let your light shine for the world to see"...

Those are the parts that I feel you should focus on. People who show the world through action and a sense of center that religion has done something real for them are the best evangelists. Because everyone can look at their life and see that it is better because of their religion.

Those who go around trying to preach to everyone and chasing them off simply give religion a bad reputation. Worse--from your perspective--in the end they have no choice but to preach to the choir. Because no one else will listen.

that is because they don't follow the true Jesus Christ. we as Jehovah Witnesses are the only ones that do that command. Mormon only send out new boys for two years. woman never do it. we as Jehovah Witnesses go with men, woman and children telling of the Good News about Jehovah God. they did not listen in Noah's day and they hated Jesus Christ when he talked about his Father Jehovah and they hate us.

We are commanded by who? A disciple of a son of a god we do not necessarily believe in? Lack of religious devotion goes hand in hand with lack of religious belief.

We do, we just don't do it verbally!
"It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching."
"Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words."
Both quotes come from St. Francis of Assisi.

I wouldn't say that I don't. It may be subtle, but it's there. I don't use the hell-fire and brimstone approach like some others.
