While you might not be a 'traditional' girl - you might want to rethink the black wedding dress. Sarah Jessica Parker thought a black wedding dress was just the thing for her too - in any interview given, when asked about her choice, she admits that she regrets her decision.

Dear, as much as you are not a traditional girl at all, you will one day after you have children, become very traditional, so I would really revise my idea about a black wedding dress. When you look at your wedding photos in years to come you will really regret the black wedding dress, so here is what I would do:
go to alfredangelo.com
brides.com
wholesaleweddinggowns.com
netbride.com
bridalonlinestore.com
theknot.com
They have a gown that has a color detailing in the back train of the gown. What you could do if you want, have it done in a strong color such as navy, deep red, dark green and maybe black, but that is not my favorite.
You will see that you can be a non-traditional bride, without looking gothic and morbid. YOur boyfriend is right and if you go with the dress I describe or something like it, he should wear a traditional black tux.
For your bridal party, don't go with black dresses, go with dresses with strong colors, such as deep purple, deep red, hunter green, navy, russet, chocolate brown, cranberry.
So there is the compromise...and you will not regret my advice if you take it in years to come and even on your wedding day. Because if you do the black gothic thing, you will definitely be the subject of ridicule and gossip and you wouldn't want that...Find a compromise and have a great wedding day.

By compromising, you could mix both of your styles by choosing a dress from David's Bridal. The dresses listed below come in white or ivory but the accents of the dress can be changed to any color you like including black. At my wedding I chose a dress that had apple red. Then my bridesmaids wore red dresses. You can look at David's Bridal online for the following styles. Congrats and best of luck.
Style: CT2406
Style T9293
Style T8778
Style PE8120
Style: E8052
Style T9293
Style H9274 (This is my personal favorite with the black, it's so beautiful)
Style T9309
Style: E9210
Style T9218

It's ok not to be traditional, but it's going to be your day. Both of you. It's no use to have him upset when he sees you walking up the aisle. And you can wear black anytime... the white dress is a bit more special, really marks the event as different. And you do not have to pick a traditional design too... a lot of things can make your wedding different from others, not just the colour of the dress.

If you want a black dress you could get the bridesmaids to wear white... swap the colours... I saw a wedding where the bride had a red dress and her girls had white and it looked great... I think the same would be for you.
Also, the boys could wear white suits with a black tie and the groom can wear a black suit with a white tie... I think that would look great!
Check these sites out to give you an idea and show your fiance... get him involved.

But i do think you should have some colour in your flowers if the dresses will be black and white... Nice deep red roses or lovely purple isianthus but you can have what ever 'coloured' flower you like

Well you should really talk about this together, after all it is a shared day that should be the one of the happiest one's in both your lives. So if need be compromise. Wear a black choker and jewlery or have a back corset with a white veil and bottom and if wanted with black accents. There is no need you can't incorporate both tastes in this. Express how you feel and that he can dress traditional himself. You can also have bridesmades in traditional wear so as to keep things witin a limit.

Personally, the people I have seen on TV that wear black dresses look gorgeous, although when I married I loved wearing an ivory gown and being the princess for the day.
Sarah Jessica Parker, a fashion icon, wore a black wedding dress, and regrets it! Here´s what she said...
“I wore black on my wedding day, and I really regret that,” Parker says in the October issue of Marie Claire. “I was too embarrassed to get married in white, and both Matthew [Broderick, her husband of nine years] and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us. Which is ridiculous, because that’s when you can relish the attention, when it’s natural. We treated it like it was a big party on a Monday night, and I regret it.”
If worse comes to worse, compromise, and wear a little white in the dress as well.

You could have the main part of the dress white, but have all black accessories and black accents to the dress. Also, have black and white flowers at the wedding. That way, he gets the tradition while you get the black you want.

My friend got married on halloween in a black dress. Maybe you could do a white dress with black trim, or have black as the wedding color?
