I think it is wrong for the masses but not everyone. Most people are not ready for sex, so it is safer in the confines of marriage. Other people are, but only you wll know if you are ready or not and most of the time it you don't find out until the deed is done.

Simply put, it's a control issue.
By teaching that sex outside of marriage is wrong, the faith can control the attitudes of society. Sometimes it's for the better, and sometimes not.
If the religion is also a political power, it is in the interest of the religion to control population growth, and stem disease.
It also helps to perpetuate the ranks of the faithful; people adhering to the faith, will raise children in the faith.
There is also a level of personal control inferred to the religion with these tenants: by controlling a person on the most basic of human instincts and urges, you can control most aspects of their life. It's a common technique in indoctrination.

I think sex is not wrong but to have sex with someone who you have not right is wrong.
The marriage is something to prove that right.
If you have sex with someone who are mature, free and like to have sex with you by not in a lie relationship then it is not wrong even before marriage. But if the law of your country say wrong it must be wrong.

The result of having sex is getting pregnant.
Pregnancy, the creation of life, is likened to God's act by being a creator himself.
Thus, the blessing of being a creator of life is sealed by the act of Holy Matrimony.
Your body is considered a sacred thing because it's purpose is to create a life. When you use your body outside of it's purpose, just to feel pleasure, is wrong.
God gave you those feelings (arousal, attraction, etc...) so that you and your spouse would be attracted to each other, look for each other and feel that love of creating a life, even if a life is not formed. You are in a sacred act of love (so to speak).

Sex is sacred. It should be experienced between a married couple in love. It is one way we can be closer to God. It is more special within marriage.
There are several Biblical references to marriage.

Religion is an institution of social control (according to sociology).
It is used to sanction or de-legitimize behaviour that is believed to be harmful to society.
In the ancient world women and fertility needed to be controlled to ensure the continuation of power.
Sex before marriage was problematic behaviour for the father of the daughter involved as she would then be "worth less".

I believe it is because everytime you have sex you are sharing a part of yourself and to share it with several different people is outrageous. That is why it is said to be a sin against your own body. Sex is a gift meant for husband and wife and it is supposed to be intimate. its funny how no one questions most other commandments but most people question sex related topics (because it is supposed to be enjoyable).

because it is.
Our bodies are sacred and the powers of procreation are sacred. Why would you want to use it before marriage?
Only recently have people stopped getting married. If you had sex out of marriage in the olden days you would be outcast of killed. Thats how serious it is. But nowdays people call good evil, and evil good. a sad thing for us all.

Simple:
Romans 1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
