The LDS church uses professional models and actors. Not all have to be LDS though many are. Many professional LDS models/actors send their portfolio to the LDS church group that makes the commercials, films, etc. They also use many members for some of the pictures in church magazines. If they use professionals they are paid so it is not a gratis thing, it is their living.

So just out of curiosity (and maybe someone will see this and answer),...but the LDS church will only hire LDS models for their work? How is it that they know who is LDS from some of the larger agencies? This is an honest question...

I don't believe that the church discriminates whether you are LDS or not to be in their productions. You just have to live the standards of the church. Example, you don't have to be LDS to sing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Get an agent. Prepare a portfolio. Acting experience is necessary. Audition all over the place. These guys work hard for their 15 seconds of fame.

there are LDS models...I did some modeling when I was younger...but not for church stuff...but there are enough models out there who are LDS that they can get them to do the pics...my sister did some for the church in the 70's while at BYU.

They may pick them from wards near where the commercial is being made. I know they are LDS, but how them get them I am unsure.
