It doesn't make you a bad person, but it is in violation of the halachah (Jewish law) . The Torah explicitly forbids tattoos and scarification as the practices of idoltary and as such forbids them to Jews.

Rather do something positive, help out with some Bikkur Cholim or the local Chevra Kadisha, get involved in the community. Do something positive rather than negative.

I know Jewish people generally do not believe in tattooing, so I'm thinking that might be strike one against the idea. Strike two would be that it is NEVER a good idea to get a tattoo because you feel "horibel" about something. Third strike - if you're worried about what anybody else thinks about you having a tattoo, a tattoo is probably not for you.

Maybe you could just get a really nice Star of David necklace to wear or something if you want to make a religious statement....

If you're not jewish you can get a tattoo. I'm jewish and i know that reason we can't is because of in WW2 when we had to get tattoos of numbers on us. But yea go ahead if you want. No, you won't hurt any jew's feelings you'll show you have respect for them.

Why not grow a Rabbi beard? Then I can call you Jewbacca. LOL

...But seriously, I dont think Judaism says a tattoo atones for being a "bad Jew". If you feel that bad about it, you should and speak with a Rabbi or someone at synagogue for help.

On the one hand, it's your body and there's nothing inherently wrong with getting a 'Jewish' tattoo (whatever that is) or any other kind, so long as it's tasteful. Unfortunately, the Torah forbids marking the body - check with your rabbi for more details.

Tattoos are against the Torah so to get a "Jewish" tattoo would make no sense.

No, it does not make you a bad Jew. There is nothing wrong with getting a tatoo, and considering your penchant for religious studies now, I think that would be a good idea. Sort of a reminder to keep working hard, you know?

I woiuld suggest an alternative--have you considered wearing something like a Star of David instead of getting a tattoo??

What's Jewish tatoo?

Bad, no. Stupid, yeah. Tattoos are painful, can lead to infection, and ugly - especially as you get older and they fade & sag.

And what happens when you realize religion is a myth and become an atheist? Then you'll really feel dumb!
