I have been making legal backup copies of all my DVD's that I already own, and always use the same type of discs, with the same software, and the same of everything, even the place I buy my movies is the same place, nothing changes. All of a sudden, after a couple years of doing this, nothing seems to work anymore, I can't backup and of my discs, it runs the whole cycle and says it was succesfully copied, like it always does, but it shows a disc error in the dvd player. I have tried to update all my drivers and made sure all the software I use is also up to date. What could be going on? Am I missing something here? If anyone has had this happen, what did you do to solve the problem. Thank You.

Your dvd writer may need cleaning a build up of rubbish on the laser head may be preventing the burn - buy a dvd cleaner (you can opne it up and clean it yourself if you are that way incllined)

Your dvd writer may be failing - you have used it a lot over many years

Try reburning an old dvd if it works then it is the new dvds at fault if it doesn't then more likely the hardware

There is another thing nero has a tick box called simulation which goes through the whole process but doesn't actualy burn the disc - this facility is on other products as well - check it is not activated

I ran into the same trouble last year. In my case it was an old DVD player that couldn't handle the higher speed disks. Other players could play my burned disks but mine couldn't. Did you recently change to 16X burn disks when this started happening? Also is your DVD burner more than a few years old? I had to change that was well since it was an oldie, only burned at 4X speed.

The other thing that it can be is copyright issues. I use Rip4Me to do my legal back-ups of my movies and it works with DVD decrypter and DVD shrink and I don't have any problems. You can go to this site, there is a lot of information there to help you make back-ups of your movies.

It appears that the newer disks have a strong write protection on them. There are a couple of DVD recorders that bypass this situation. It is best to start the recording before pressing "play" and this typically will override that protection, but it does not work for every disk.

It is hard to determine the cause, but there are several possibilities: either your computer has been infected with viruses or spyware, probably added something into the disk while burning, or you accidentally chose a wrong format or setting? Run a free online antivirus and spyware scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com . good luck!

before, the blank dvd you bought is only 4x, trying to write or copy to 8x or 16x might cause a problem, to make it right.. always use 4x every time you copy or back your movies.. you never notice this while your copying..
