If you really have depression, you would know it. Life seems very dark, like a deep whole. As a sufferer myself, you get feelings of suicide (which is NOT and option!) and it feels like you're just going through the motions. But if you genuinely laugh and are basically happy and the world seems sunny and bright, then you luckily do not have depression. You don't have to go to the doctor to get medication. You are blessed. It's totally normal to have trouble with math, and it's also totally normal to want to be by yourself sometimes. In fact, that's a good sign. If you were chronically depressed, you'd know it. I hope this helps you. :)

I consider myself a writer (at least, I write) and I'm not depressed. But frustration and even sadness is something that comes from writing, because, as someone else said before me, you're not just feeling your own ups and downs, but your characters as well. I'm a very emotional person, I will admit, and I get worked up over stuff that maybe I shouldn't. Does how writing is going for me effect my mood? I think so. Writing is, for people who are passionate about it, a form of release of their innermost self, and when all of a sudden something happens and that release gets up on hold, it gets all bottled up. I guess that's why I call Writer's Block a disease. You're being slowly tormented to death by the ideas that you can't write. Haha, so yeah. Are all writers emotional people? I think so. Are they all depressed? I'm going to have to disagree with that one, although they certainly all can be depressed at different times.

Wanting to work by yourself is not depression. The checks for depression are generally very clear. Don't want to get out of bed. Cannot face another day. Lethargy. Bad thoughts about almost everything. Tiredness. Cannot seem to do even small jobs. Everything is a huge burden. Cannot sleep at night. Thoughts about suicide. Getting bad grades is not an upper but if you are determined to get better grades by working harder then you aren't depressed. Tell your friend that she doesn't know what she is talking about.

Just because you get bad grades doesn't mean you're depressed. There's nothing wrong with wanting to work alone. I prefer to work alone. You are perfectly normal. Now if you were contemplating suicide that would be different but you just sound like a girl that sucks at Math. I sucked at Math and now I work for a big accounting firm. You'll pull through.

Do you get bad grades in math because you don't work hard enough at it, or is it just too difficult?
Why do you want to work on school stuff by yourself?
Do YOU think you're depressed?
What do you do to make yourself feel better? Do you exercise? Hang out with friends?
If you really think you're depressed, please go talk to your school counselor. They may be able to help you figure out what's bugging you and give you some things you can do to fix it.
Hang in there, sweetie :)

Your friend Amanda must be slightly daft...Does she even begin to think about the complete irrelevancy of math affecting depression?

You are not depressed. Working on a project by yourself, means that you just want to get it done your way without outside influences. It's OK.
